Not that against the hire, but the fact that Treliving didn't even look around or talk to Sutter or AV is not good.

After sitting on it over the weekend and seeing news like this pop out. Peters could very well be the coach this team needs. I just hope his assistants aren't lameducks like Cameron was.

Again, we don’t know that. Could have been as simple as an “unofficial” phone call seeing where those were at in their own paths and whether they were looking for a place like Calgary. If not, no reason to make it official and bring them in for an interview.

I fully expect to be incredibly impressed/excited by the end of the presser and Peter’s/Treliving’s post-presser interviews on the Fan 960.
Whether the hire works out or not will come out eventually, but for now I am hoping for nothing but the best for Peter’s and the Flames next season!
Go Flames Go!

Absolutely. Why not right?
Also, I kind of feel that, given that the vast majority of fans (based on my own, subjective and unsubstantiated assessment) are against this, that makes me think it's probably going to work out really well.
As someone who has made his living in the markets, I'll bet against public opinion every time.

The skating part is significant. I like it.

For the love of god Bill. Make the team competitive in the preseason. No more half assed games that carries over into the start of the season.

I'm not going to complain about Peters being hired but what happened to the process for this hire? Is Treliving capable of hiring people that he hasn't worked with before? The best candidate isn't always someone you know personally. I suppose Treliving really, really likes Peters to outright hire him without considering others. I realize there's been some debate about Treliving this past season and if he's a good GM or mediocre. I think this hire will shed major light on this. If he misses on this hire it's clear he's simply not a very good GM as properly evaluating coaches is part of being a successful GM.

People talk like coaches are some sort of mystery box that you need to open up and talk to them to find out what they are about.
There is AMPLE evidence available as to what Sutter and AV are as coaches.
Treliving and his staff would have no doubt done detailed analysis on their coaching styles and determined they aren't what he/they want.
You don't need an interview to know what either of these guys is about.

Bill Peters wasn’t out of work long.
Just three days after resigning as head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes, the Calgary Flames will announce the 51-year-old Peters as their new bench boss.

Worst thing that happens is Peters does exactly what I expect will happen. Anything better and it's a bonus.

He had never worked with Glen Gulutzan before he hired him...
So I think that is it. The first time he didn't go with somebody who knew personally first, and now this time with his job on the line he's going with somebody he knows and can trust.
