If Peters is the hire I'm okay with it and willing to give him a chance. His resume looks pretty good: winning a WHL championship, learning under Babcock, being named World Championship coach, and overachieving with a really bad Canes team.

71, 86, 87 and 83 points is overachieving?
You must really think the Hurricanes roster sucks.

I don’t know why people think the canes are so terrible. They spot one of the best young up and coming d cores in the league. They have some really good forwards in Aho and Terivainen and they are a pretty fast team as a whole. Not to mention they are a budget team who finished 1, yes 1 point behind the Flames with 83 points in arguably the hardest division in hockey with the Pens, Caps, Jackets, Devils and Flyers.
I’d be curious to see what Peters can do with a cap team, a group of veteran defenceman, and a stronger group of forwards then what he had to work with in Carolina in now what can be classed as an easier division then the Met. I preferred Sutter or AV myself but when you look at the situation as a whole, I can see why Tre wants to hire Peters and I really do see a lot upside here. Give him a chance, he may surprise you

So no real departure from what we previously had?
I was pretty critical of Gulutzan from early on as he seemed to be a big issue for the team. I haven't had much to say about Treliving but if the Flames don't have a drastic improvement next year I'll be ready to jump all over Treliving and ask for him to be fired. If the Flames suck again next year Treliving and Burke need to be walked out.

Not really. Very similar, as the Canes fans said. (For the record, I didn't do a deep dive exactly.)
If anything this should be an interesting experiment. If this doesn't work I think we can safely say the system sucks. If it does work, I think we can safely say there was nothing wrong with the system as such.

Whether Tre upgrades #1RW and the bottom 6 will determine Tre’s fate. The fact Hathaway and Brower had top 9 minutes is indicting.

All I want to know is if Peters shortens the bench at times and if things aren't working does he shuffle his lines up.?
I'll leave PP questions for when they hire assistants.

Nobody liked the GG hire. ... but believe it or not, we are actually a pretty optimistic crowd. We gave it a chance. This rumored hire has the same feel except now we have the whole "fool me once" vibe going.

That said, once again: How do we know that AV or Sutter have any interest in coaching the Flames? Those calls might have happened, with AV and Sutter saying "Thanks, but no thanks." and hanging up.
Sure, that's pure conjecture, but it's just as valid as saying that Treliving hasn't bothered considering them.
My point is that there are a lot of people jumping to conclusions.

Agree
Commenting as if AV or DS are just there for us to pluck and drop in the big chair is silly. Like assuming every UFA is ours is we want them. I can think of more reasons why these guys wouldn’t want to be here than why they would. I trust that management has a read in the situation.

Budget team. 10-20 million below the cap. I suppose you're right if you choose to ignore that.
What would you consider to be 'successful' in this context?

Didn't vote for Peters. Voted for AV but he either doesn't want to come here or he's too expensive for ownership and I know they say money doesn't matter but when it comes to coaches this team appears to get cheap in my opinion. The team will get the new coach bounce for a few months then we will see their true colours , whatever that may be, come January or so.

Tree’s job should absolutely hang on this choice. If this coach can’t get the most out what’s been given with the roster, the GM should absolutely take the fall after failing on the coach front on try number 3.

He is not known for shortening the bench but he is known for shuffling his lines constantly, even when they are working.

Also a big complaint Canes fans had was his use of Ryan on the 1st unit PP. He is pretty much their Troy Brouwer so I would expect no change here if he has any input on the PP, I expect Brouwer to be on it again.

I've been trying to do some digging on what could be expected with Peter if he were to come to Calgary. A couple positives that I have seen from some reports and articles is that a quick transition game seems to be important with forwards moving up the ice (stretch pass) and D having the ability to go for a rush. He apparently also does a lot of line juggling which is encouraging although I've also read that his juggling has led to some chemistry issues and some player dissatisfaction. One thing that is really concerning that I've seen a few times is that his team seems to be notorious for slow starts. The players appear to be unprepared for many games. We've already seen that with Gulutzan and I don't want to see it continue.

Some of you guys that are always negative maybe should take a break from the Flames or least become just a casual fan and it enjoy the game on that level. You are supposedly a hockey fan because it brings you enjoyment. If it no longer provides you that enjoyment then what is the point?
