Yeah, I know a girl who knew him in high school. Apperently a humble lad and everybody knew that he was gonna go somehwere... but, I still find him annoying and a brown-noser none the less.
I get the feeling he follows his own agenda before trying to help out people with it, which is what bothers me about this song. Seems WAY too forced and shoved down our throats.
Do the song, because you want to do the song, not because you think it'll score you brownie points with the public. Leave that to the politicians.

I find the video extremely calculated and insincere. They are looking to improve their apish image.
The majority of video concepts are pitched to the band/management and they choose from there.
Maybe I'm off the mark in this case...but I doubt it.

No hate? Too bad, here's a healthy dose coming your way.
You know how pathetic their music is? I was listening to the Stern show when they start playing music clips as part of the news. I missed the intro but I thought oh great here's the new Nickleback music. 2nd song, yep sounds like Nickleback, typical and lame with the god awful vocals and that annoying fake warble. 3rd song, yeah this has to be Nickleback.
They start talking again so I start paying attanetion, turns out it was some guy from American Idol. Hahahha, this sh*t all sounds the same.
Right after that Artie says, who was that we were listening to? Clay Aiken. Hahahahah!
That's how faceless, generic and useless their music is. It all blends into a big mess of American Idols, Creeds and Defaults.

Whatever..there have been bands putting out socially conscious music/video for years, and in ways far more interesting than nickelback. They make one video that hits you over the head with a message and they're great now? Yeah okay, good message, crappy song, crappy band. It'll take a lot more than that video for me to give these guys any credit.

I've never been anti-Nickleback but I thought that was a lame video.
The song was lame too, "what if everybody cared?" What kind of idealistic pap is that garbage. I get annoyed whenever I hear crap like this or John Lennon's "Imagine". It doesn't offer any solutions it doesn't even offer any good questions.

I can't believe you just called Lennon's Imagine crap.
Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Yeah, I agree pretty much with that. We'll never know if it was a forced attempt to change their image with the mass public, but I could see it being that.
I guess it just bugs me when people go off on Kroeger and how he's an egotistical SOB without actually having met the guy. You may not like his music but that's not a reason for goin off on the guy as a person.
As for the song, it is what it is. It's not my thing, but I won't hate on them for making a living on music like that. ALthough I do think that they are caught in a bit of a catch 22. People whine that their booze and party music has no substance, then they try to put out a 'genuine' song and people bash them for being insincere and forced... lose-lose situation.
Whatever though. too much time and thought wasted on Nickelback

People can tell what your objectives are if you're doing a song.
Like I said in that quote, do a song because you enjoy it and you mean it. Not because you think it's good PR, and that's the feeling I get with Nickleback.
It doesn't always have to be about drugs, drinking and sex. Garth Brooks probably wasn't thinking "hmm, I'm gonna make a 'genuine' song when he did The Beaches of Chyenne or The Red Strokes" - similarly, I don't think Our Lady Peace was aiming for that with Theif, Red Hot Chilli Peppers with Californication, or whatever.
