IF Bill Peters is the next coach the Calgary Flames, I am pretty happy about the fact he will be coaching Connor McDavid & Friends in the World Championships in a few weeks:
"Connor! Forget everything you have ever been taught. You need to be holding on to the puck as much as possible."
"Connor! Don't worry about back checking. There are other guys to do that job. Just hang out at the blue line and cash in on those sweet, sweet stretch passes."
"Connor! Honestly, there is no reason you should not be winning games all on your own. You really should be averaging about 30–35 mins per game regardless of what anyone is telling you."

Have you read some of the angry posts in the coaching thread.
I have very little doubt that there are people posting on here that are more than capable of doing just that.
Hahaha, you went from 0-60 in record time.
Take a deep breath, nobody on this forum would jump from overcritical analysis of his coaching history to actual physical harm to a guy who hasn't even landed in Calgary. Give your head a shake.

Yeah, you'll be a faster and more stable skater if you tie those bad boys together

Their teams play the exact same system. The Calgary Flames regularly outshot the opposition but could not score. The Carolina Hurricanes regularly outshot the opposition but couldn't score. The Hurricanes had strong Corsi for %, the Flames had strong Corsi for %. GG was terrible at making adjustments and line decisions, go look on the Hurricanes HF board and you will see the exact same complaint about Peters. The only difference is one was a softy who was a players coach and the other is a taskmaster who will take you to woodshed publicly for a poor performance.
What you are showing me are outcomes, not coaching styles. You can get the result of high Corsi %, outshoot opponents but not get wins in a billiion different fashions.
But fair enough, I won't pretend to know if their "systems" are the same or not. They may very well play the same system (although based on your response I gather you don't know either). If they do, hopefully at the very least the PP system is different. We do know one area they are very different is as you said, communication style. GG was described as a players coach, Peters, being described much more in the D.Sutter mold, so system aside, that's a huge difference right off the bat, not sure why you are underselling how big of a change that is.
And looking at fan boards is a rediculous place to get info. Fans complain when their team isn't winning, don't complain when they are. All that going to HF to look shows us is what we already know, Carolina didn't win much, it doesn't tell us jack about the coaching style.

Connor! Dive to the boards to cutoff the breakout!

I haven’t really been following the coaching news since GG got canned. I also wasn’t paying attention when I hit up CP this morning and got all excited that Russell Peters was coming to town. Quickly started making plans before realizing it was the main forum, and everyone was talking about Bill Peters.
That somebody is me, Russell. Right in the feels, dude.

I'm fine with Peters. I was fine with GG's system as it was producing tons of chances... it was his baffling player usage, lack of line shuffling and inability to inspire the team that drove me insane.
I'm not going to speak to GG ability to "inspire" I'm not in the room/bus so I have no idea what kind of esteem or rhetorical florish he has... but I agree with the rest of this. GG's system was fine at least for 5v5. He did however have a bunch of predilections that he just couldn't shake (or if he did shake was all to eager to relapse into). Yeah, the Carolina Hurricanes seem to be the Calgary Flames of the east in terms of results so I understand why some folk may find this potential hire underwhelming but the Calgary Flames are not the Carolina Hurricanes... I look at the two teams and what I see are a better caliber player here then over there so I'm perfectly willing to give Peters a chance.
2 year deal for DS, with Peters getting 4 years and taking over in year 3 if the club chooses?
A succession plan of sorts.
When he was in Detroit, Peters worked primarily with the team's defensemen and penalty-killing units. He has a lot of experience working with AHL and junior players too.
I think he could be a great member of the coaching staff.
