It's not like the Leafs are playing against a very good Boston team or anything.
How anyone can question how quickly Babcock turned things around in Toronto is mind boggling.

Can we get some BC protesters in here to stop this?
Maybe his nickname could be Bill Pipeline?

I'm honestly shocked that Treliving uses what is probably his last shot to get it right on someone like Bill Peters. With so many experienced coaches available, you opt for someone who hasn't even averaged 82 points in his four seasons in Carolina and who hasn't coached a playoff game? Crazy stuff, and extremely disappointing.

If this happens I'll be scratching my head the same I was when Gulutzan was hired. Hoping for the best but not convinced they made the best decision.

Well apparently there is interest in Dallas and New York, so maybe fan perception isn't the best gauge here.

There's also the possibility that the Flames owners who aren't making money hand over fist (<5 million in operating income last season). Are going to hire a 5 or more million dollar a year coach, and that looks like the growing rate for the coaches that are considered to be elite in this league. Especially with Gully still getting paid I think 1.6 million for next year.
I doubt the Flames owners are going to invest more then they have to until they know where the new building stands, I doubt that unlike previous owners that they're all that fired up about possibly losing money.
I won't judge the Peter's hiring if it happens, until after next season is over.
But the truth is, after Hartley and Gully coming and going quickly, I doubt they'll be willing to fire another coach quickly, so a Peter's hire is going to stick with this franchise for multiple years unless he's caught knee deep in a cocaine smuggling ring using hookers as mules on video scandal.

Is Tre just hiring Bill Peters because of his initials?

I promise you AV wasn't very "popular" in NY this season with their terrible record.

Man, this board is becoming insufferable.
Can't recall this much hyperbole and negativity in the past ~12 years I've been on CP. Let it play out, people. If it doesn't work out, and turns out to be a misstep, Treliving will be fired. And if all it takes is a 'bad' coach to ruin the window of opportunity to win with this core, then the core was never good enough to begin with.
Also, they don't hand out awards for "I told you so" on the internet, so stop trying to tell people you're going to be right and maybe let it play out? The basis for already hating Bill Peters is a completely fabricated narrative.

Neither am I, but then again there have been three times that I have been convinced about the Flames making the right coaching hire:
Daryll Sutter
Jim Playfair
Brent Sutter
Based on my own track-record I am not all that confident in my instincts for this.

Treliving looks to be hiring the guy he wanted, the type of coach he wanted, and in the end the GM is there to guide this team. I will say that the Flames clearly identified a lack of emotion/energy/whatever, and it certainly doesn't sound like Peters is the type of leader that is going to all of a sudden correct that. It's why I though Darryl Sutter would've been such a great fit - that man is the leader of whatever team he coaches.
5. Lack of energy - yep, lines up directly with an issue the Flames had under Gully.
4. Co-captain situation - well, Brouwer was given an "A"...and it's been a disaster
3. Misuse of players - Yep.
2. Frustrating style of play/lack of ability to finish scoring chances - Yep.
1. Team is not getting much better overall - Gully's team performed better in year 1 than year 2, despite an improved roster.
If the on-ice product is as horrendous as it has been for the past two years...

Also, There is a behind the scenes clip of the 2010 selection meeting and he was favoured for the spot. But K. Lowe insisted on bringing in Seabrook so they could have that pairing.

Turned it around? He won a ####ing lottery and had other high picks. My point was that you can't just look at records
