Nope. Because their team was built for when size and physical play mattered much more.

Evander Kane & Gabriel Landeskog says hello.
I wouldn't say back in 2014 you had a lot of slow power forwards either.

In which case enjoy the darkness for another few years.
Loved the guy when the game was different but his system and hockey sense isnt for todays game.

Do you honestly believe that Darryl would ever attempt to shoehorn a roster built for fast transition, speed and skill like the Lightning into playing dump and chase?

You mean those old, big, slow guys? How they did 4 years later? Is this really your question?

Those are your examples of power forwards? Good grief.
Kane sure has a consistent track record..

Neither of those guys are slow. Kane especially.

I don't think the game has passed Sutter by.
I do think the game has changed significantly since 2014. It is much faster and you need that second wave of offense with how packed the shooting lanes are.
I do worry Darryl is the wrong coach for our group as his systems favour forward cores and even a guy like Doughty was far less productive for him - which did in fact cost the 2 of 3 playoff spots in his final three years.

I think you have him confused with Brent Sutter. Darryl is a smarter coach than that.

There are also many systems like Gulutzan's that don't win either, infact, they have proven to fail miserably and I'm not even a fan of bringing Sutter back. I'm all for any coach who can get this team playing with a little more jam, which I feel is why this team failed.

Not discounting that Darryl is a great coach. He's extremely smart and knows how to press the right buttons of his players but it's a bit concerning that Stevens was running the practices as the team never missed a beat with Darryl leaving. Fortunately Rich Preston is employed but who would be running practices in Calgary and if they aren't as good as Stevens how effective will the new staff be? It's not like the Kings were world beaters in the regular season and I'm getting a little tired of watching this team continually scratch and claw to get to the playoff doorstep.

Taking a while to get to 5000

I was initially ok with the idea of ownership intervening if it meant they got their way on a coach like Sutter (going by what Dreger says, so yeah grain of salt etc), but having had a chance to think about that I'd rather Treliving went with exactly who he wants regardless of ownership's wants. They gave Treliving the deal he has now, and he should be the guy that gets to make the call. They entrusted him with the franchise. If he sees the team playing a certain way and someone like Peters matches that vision then you go with him. Or remove him entirely, and I don't see them doing that.

I dont know why people paint Sutter as some dinasour.
The guy coached last year. He is younger than guys like Bodreau who seems to be liked. He is the same age as Quenville and only 4 years older than Babcock.
Incidentally he and Q have had the best results in the last few years. Both are pushing 60.
What gives?

If you are referencing me i dont think hes too old for the job.
Hes stubborn, which was one of the qualities that made him a great coach but can be a detriment when willing to change systems and adapting to a different type of game now.

I would bet that Mr Sutter is enjoying feeding and calving cows and is not interested in coaching. I want Tre to pick his guy without owner influence.
