I'm surprised that people are trying to push the narrative that Vegas had such an advantageous expansion draft. It seemed pretty similar to any of the others I've seen, I suppose it's better than having to share a draft with another expansion team which has been the more common way of doing things. It's also better than the Sharks way where they had to take half their players from the Northstars.

I think the thing that really made it for the Knights was that there is more depth of talent in the league, period. The players on the bottoms of rosters can be pretty good and given a chance to thrive...

That all said, NOBODY was marvelling at the roster they had assembled last summer. They were an afterthought when folks were pencilling in their preseason predictions. So stop trying to put an asterisk next to them. They have earned every bit of this and it's a lot of fun to watch.

As for Deryk Engelland beating up two Canucks at once, it's right up there in last-decade Flames moments with Sarich's hit on Marleau that sparked that comeback. Engelland is an example of what is right with sports and it's good to see him experiencing success while also getting some credit for it too.

Congrats to the Knights.

Congrats to the Knights.
In the 1993, 1998, 1999, and 2000 expansion drafts teams were allowed to protect 9 F, 5 D, and 1G and 1993 and 2000 had two teams picking.

The 2017 draft saw teams allowed to protect 7F, 3D, 1G and only one team picking.

It's not a narrative, it's the truth.

They do deserve credit as even still no one thought they'd be any good but they had far and away the biggest advantage in an expansion draft.

It is a narrative because it's only had an advantage compared to past expansion teams. That advantage is meaningless versus established NHL teams who they are actually competing with (and beating).

They were still picking from the bottom thirds of the 30 other rosters. Deeper squads suffered more and gave up better players, and like I said, that's as much due to depth in the sport as anything.

There's no need to disparage Vegas for what they've done; you're not, but many are. As I said, pretty much everyone looked at their roster in July and snorted and laughed. Nobody thought they would even sniff the wildcard let alone a convincing division win and soundly sweeping aside their first round opponent.

Fact is, it was not similar to any expansion draft we have seen.

That said, they did (and are doing) an incredible job. And every bit of their success is absolutely deserved. It is a fantastic story, whether some like it or not.

Do you think people will let McPhee off the hook for trading Forsberg for Erat now?

Best possible matchup for the Knights in round 1. Their round 2 opponent will be a huge step up.

A Jets vs. Knights series would be a great WCF. Two fun teams to watch.

The Knights are winning me over to cheering for them through the West, in no small part because it's great watching Fleury have success with them too. I've been a fan for Fleury since back in WJC days and it was a bit tough seeing him lose his role in Pitts. Glad to see him on his way to the second round having had a great performance locking the door when everything was on the line and his team needed a clutch performance.

The California teams have dominated the division for some time but it's now the golden age for those teams as the Kings and Ducks in particular look like teams on a downward trend. Maybe some of the players were a little rejuvenated under a different coach but the Kings looked just like the Kings under Sutter in the playoffs as they don't have the speed or enough finish to compete with faster, more skilled teams. Good luck pinning your hopes on Brown and Kopitar to repeat their success this season.

It was a former King, McNabb, who scored the GWG and SWG.

That'll be a very interesting narrative () for a Nashville vs. Vegas series I'm really excited about

Former Flame Engelland with best +/- on Vegas team in playoffs and also has second most average ice time. Who knew the Flames had a 1st line D-man when they left him unprotected lol.

He was a UFA and going to Vegas anyway...

Vegas could have had him and Kulak if they wanted

Yep, we lost Engelland because he lives in Vegas, Vegas wanted him, he wanted Vegas and was set to become UFA.

The only smart thing the Flames could do there was what they did; Allow him to go to Vegas as our lost player to stop them from taking Kulak and then just waiting for Engelland to come, too.

Had the opportunity to chat with Kelly McCrimmon on my flight home from Vegas today. The guy was all smiles from ear to ear. He's loving life in Vegas and is looking forward to the challenge that the Sharks will bring in Round 2.

Also was wearing his Golden Knights gear with pride.

Knights fans are getting cocky. The Kings have two cups this decade and they have one series win. Settle down guys a cup takes 16 wins.

Being cocky and overly optimistic is all part of being a fan. I got no problem with it as we would mock them if they called themselves first round champs. Go big or go home!

Could not agree more.

They have every right to be cocky, their team doesn't lose!

I think its one of the coolest sport stories of my life to be honest.

Expansion teams in any pro sport anywhere, never ever have this kind of first season. They have done it the right way to, and after what happened in that city 5 days before the first ever game raises the accomplishment even higher.

A cast-off coach with a bunch of guys with chips on their shoulders. All buying in for one another and just playing their game. It's awesome to see.

I'm a fan.
