I feel like a lot of posters have clouded views on Dave Tippett and the style of hockey he coaches. Also his career winning percentage of .563 is utterly amazing when you consider how bad those Coyotes teams were in the back half of his time there. The Flames could do much worse than Tippett. Much worse. He would be my 3rd pick after AV and Trotz.

Why exactly?
To be fair I think the people who are voting for Vigneault should do the same thing.

I know ownership held onto Darryl a lot longer than they should have when he was GM. Lots of loyalty there. Not sure how badly it ended, but they gave him as much rope as possible.

I heard one of the guys mention how odd it was that the POHO wasn't at a press conference to talk about hockey ops. Interesting.

I wasn't listening, but this doesn't strike me as odd at all. Burke has maintained since he was hired that he will be in the "background" and won't interact with the media much as this is Treliving's team. He's been true to his word for the most part too.

I assume Ottawa would be the other offer but going from the Hurricanes ownership situation to Ottawa's would be akin to hopping from one frying pan into another.

I remember back when the Flames were in their coaching search in 2016 seeing Nate Leeman's name thrown into the mix. Based on Treliving's comments about experience I am not sure he would get a look this time around, but that is a guy that would also intrigue me.

Like Claude Julien? Ron Wilson? Randy Caryle? All of those guys had that on their resume too and results are mixed on all 3. I'm biased as I work in investment, but I think coaching is pretty similar. Past performance is not always indicative of future performance.
Irregardless of whether it is Sutter, AV, Peters Keefe or heck even Ryan Huska it's pretty much a given that if the next coach doesn't work out this team is back to the drawing board anyway. Because I don't agree with the idea that past performance guarantees future success, i'd much rather see Treliving pick the guy who he thinks is the best fit for the group.

I was hoping for him last go round. Built up 2 winning NCAA programs, and preached sound 2-way hockey. I was a big supporter for him last time.
I am of the opinion that after the last 2 years, the Flames don't have the relative luxury of hiring an inexperienced coach and live with some of the potential growing pains one could expect. Solid candidate for a team looking for some 'new blood', however!

Huh? Diving is something divers do. Coaches do not coach diving.
Do we have divers? No. Then I don’t understand why anyone would think AV would result in the Flames diving. Makes zero sense

You think the NHL considers the World Cup a "novelty tournament"? That's nonsense. I think Peters' place on the Team Canada bench actually says quite a lot about how highly he is regarded in NHL coaching and management circles.

Whereas the ownership situation in Calgary is a gilded paradise?

Its stable. It spends to the cap on its players. It stays out of the public spotlight. It supports its management. It doesn't lambaste the players face to face after a loss.
So, yeah.

I understand people have some issues with meddling and the arena situation, but comparing Calgary's ownership to Melnyk is ridiculous.
At least they're willing to spend to the cap and don't resort to blaming the fans for their financial situation.

For those comparing Peters and Gallant, there seems to be a substantial difference in both NHL and CHL success.
Gallant:
CHL .801 lost in finals
CHL .875 won
CHL. 757 won
NHL .555
NHL .628 Lost in round 1
NHL .523
NHL .665
Peters:
CHL .403
CHL .556 lost in round 1
CHL .743 won
AHL .538 lost in round 1
AHL .588 lost in round 1
AHL .531
NHL .433
NHL .524
NHL .530
NHL .506
That's not to say that he may or may not be successful with this team, but he certainly wouldn't be on my short list with AV, Sutter and Ruff out there.
However if the Flames brass feel that Gulutzans with some edge is what the team needs, then this is their guy.

AV coached teams dive. So is he:
A) Coaching them to do it.
B) Ignoring or overlooking when they do it.
C) Telling them to stop it and being tuned out.

Hopefully if they are moving on from Burke it's because with a decent sample size of his influence on Treliving's hockey decisions, its become abundantly clear that he's holding Treliving back.
For example:
1. Hopefully he pushed hard for Brouwer signing and Tre was reluctant
2. Hopefully he pushed hard for Bollig trade and Tre was reluctant
3. Hopefully he had a major influence on the 2014 draft, and Tre went with because he was just hired
Etc, etc...
One can hope right?
I don't know what the dynamic between the two is like when hockey decisions are made, and it's probably just wishful thinking.
