You are basically arguing that Sutter is a bad coach because his teams succeeded despite your expectations. That is rather nonsensical to me. In his last eight seasons as a coach, Sutter's teams won a division title, reached the final three times and won the Cup twice. If you're looking for an experienced coach with a pedigree, there's almost nobody better available.

I don't think the roster is a Sutter type of team. Might be a round hole-square peg type of situation. However, he is a great motivator and gets every ounce from every player and that is something this team certainly needs.
AV, Tippett (although unlikely) and Trotz would all likely command the respect of the players. In the past, they've all had high energy, skill focused teams which is what I hope the next coach brings.

AltaGuy has a magnetic personality and exudes positive energy, which is infectious to those around him. He has an unparalleled ability to communicate with people, whether he is speaking to a room of three or an arena of 30,000.

I want AV so bad. I give a big no to Peters. Sutter seems like an odd choice given past history here but I could live with it. If it’s Peters, I think my trust in Treliving is done.

I think AV is a tremendous coach in many ways, but I did not like how he either tolerated or encouraged all the diving in Vancouver.
I think Sutter would bring the right identity back.

How can Trotz be on the list without knowing he will be available? I vote Sutter.

Duhatschek suggests four potential candidates, but two of them are still employed: https://theathletic.com/318866/2018/...of-the-flames/
I don't have a subscription to The Athletic, and it cuts off just after he mentions Peters. Anyone with a subscription want to post the other three names?

The reason I like Sutter or AV is because this team isnt a bunch of babies anymore.
They know the Xs and Os and where to be and what to do.
They dont need a teacher, they need a General.

I think you missed the point.
People are saying that Tre won’t hire Tippett because of the political manoeuvring in Arizona to try to become GM, which threatened the GM
Then people are talking about Darryl as a viable candidate, when Darryl started in Calgary as coach and then in fact moved in to a dual role, taking over as GM ... which is what people are saying rules out Tippett
Does that make sense now?

Except Darryl didn't do that in his last stop, where he was most successful. He ain't dumb.

Big deal. It wasn’t a terribly serious comment. You don’t see the irony?

That's at least the one thing I like about Peters over Gultuzan, despite their other similarities. The guy does seem to have much more presence in terms of personality, and I always felt that this team needed a strong leader behind the bench since it didn't appear to be coming from the players.

I would agree with that.
After all the exit interviews what this team is lacking is fire. Chuckie and Gio are the only ones who really 'bring it.'
We're not a rebuilding team of kids anymore, somebody's gotta bring the fire.
The last two seasons just kind of felt...passionless. Just going through the motions. Thats not good enough.
This is sports, its all about passion and this team had all of the intensity of dead fish.

New age hockey has passed Trotz by. He was a great coach for getting a mediocre roster to play to its fullest, but seemingly can't make a good roster better than the sum of its parts.
