Ill be honest....im disgusted by those of you who are celebrating people losing thier jobs. Have some empathy.
I agree a change needed to happen but its not the time to celebrate because we all assume the grass will be greener.
Ughhh. They get paid a LOT of money, not like a single mother at minimum wage getting fired at 7-11,or a thirty year Sears employee getting screwed out of that pension that they counted on.They are all aware of the reality of coaching in the NHL and will all land on their feet with jobs that pay in a year what most fans take a decade to earn, even better yet, collect a full salary for the duration of their contracts, they will be just fine.Having said that,we should feel for their families that may have to be uprooted to new cities and be respectful to them in our comments, any empathy should be directed to them.

I feel like under AV a guy like Gaudreau will go from an 80 point player to a 100 point player, and if Treliving can get a solid bottom six forward group going we will be a consistent 100+ point team.
I won't be upset if Sutter becomes the coach, but I feel like it'll be more of a grinding team with less scoring and though they will be in the hunt, it will be a hunt for a playoff spot and not division titles like it would be with AV.

I have a hard time believing that there would still be bad blood regarding that stuff. These people are all adults and they understand that this is a business. It's been 8 years since Sutter resigned. Whatever happened during that time between the two camps, I wouldn't be surprised if it's water under the bridge at this point.
All of us, who want Darryl back, would hope this is true. But people are people, with their hurt feelings, old grudges, pride, personality likes and dislikes... You can never discount all that with “that was all just business, nothing personal” stuff.

I voted AV as he is proven winner and coaches a style that would be comparable with the Flames players. Sutter would be really cool but I'm not sure if his style is suitable for the modern game. The Kings really turned things around, especially offensively, after he left.
I really don't follow hockey enough to make an educated choice though and will be neutral to pretty much any hire. My only hope if that the new coach actually lasts a while and we are not back talking about firing coaches next year.

Love Darryl Sutter, but he needs a veteran core and freedom to do his thing in order to thrive (in my opinion), and I don't see that happening here. I'm not saying either is a bad thing, just that it's not a good match right now.
I'm not sure your post makes sense. If Gulutzan's team looked good but couldn't finish - that's not a systems problem to me, it's a player problem.
It's funny that you say outside of 5 players that "most other forwards" have been underwhelming and that they've produced better in other systems. Who are you talking about? Frolik had his highest production under GG (albeit not a lot more than when he was in Winnipeg and he was out for more games under Hartley). Lazar had his second highest season under GG. But Hathaway and Jankowski haven't really played under anyone else at the NHL level. Stajan, Brouwer and Jagr - do you think a different coach gets more goals out of them? The only ones a different coach might impact are Bennett and maybe Brouwer.
We've talked about the team moving into a less structured system about halfway through last year, starting with our 10 game streak through the rest of the year. This year they played the system fully the whole way through to the same results as we saw in the first half of last year.
Frolik has been a 0.5PPG player for several years, including his first year in Calgary under Hartley, as well as his first year under Gulutzan (lets be honest last year was only two points more than he had both his final two years in Winnipeg). Also worth noting that Frolik had 6g in his first 15 games last year and then only 11 in his remaining 68g (similar to his production this year)
Bennett looked great playing on the wing in the playoffs under Hartley as well as his rookie year the following year. He has had consistency issues and been snakebitten for periods throughout his whole career, but that has been exacerbated the last two years under Gulutzan, including his goal scoring dropping each year.
Brouwer was a consistant 40+ point player for Washington and St Louis. We're talking about a player that averaged 20 goals per season for the 7 years prior to him coming to Calgary. In his two seasons as a Flame, he has 19.
You bring up Lazar having his second best season under Gulutzan. It was actually his third best, and he has only played three full NHL seasons. Hmm....
If we move to talking defence, clear drop in Brodie's production, as well as Hamonic's worst season as a pro. Also a 20% drop in Gio's totals. These are all big parts of the team on the bottom 6 and defence that are providing underwhelming and regressive results in Gultuzan's system.
Moot point since he was fired now, but wanted to respond to your post regardless.
I think we would see a very different Sam Bennett under Darryl Sutter. If anyone could make Bennett a complete player, Darryl would probably be the guy!
Sam Bennett is exactly a Sutter player. Speedy tenacious forward, who plays hard along the boards. One of my biggest problems with Bennett under Gully was that it was like he didnt play his game. Bennett under Hartley although short lived crashed the Net harder than any player on this team. At 180 pounds he looked like a man possessed, under gully he would do this alot less albeit bigger and stronger.
Daryll would force Bennett to go back to playing like he should be, all out every shift. Crash the net and play hard along the boards. Bennetts shouldnt try and deke out four players(he has tons of skill but shouldnt focus on that aspect of the game). If he wants to be successful again he needs to be the player he was when he played his first season here.
Sutter would promote this type of play.

Kudos to the mod who added Eakins, something for the trolls and Oiler fans to choose
And he’s got a vote already!
