I'm glad the Flames took their time to do this the right way, rather than fire GG the day the season ended as some were calling for. It was worth completing the evaluation process (sorry!) including exit interviews with all the players, coaches and staff before finalizing the decision. It's not as if any of the top coaching candidates were going to sign the first offer they received, and it looks better on the organization (especially to potentially incoming staff) if they make decisions in a careful and considered way rather than making knee-jerk reactions.

Plus, with GG in Humboldt to offer support for the community, that clearly was not the time to fire him.

I like GG and won't celebrate people losing their jobs but I think BT did the right thing, based on how the last half of the season went.

I just want a coach who's willing to mock Kevin Bieksa, even if he's his own player.

Dave Lowry
Craig Hartsburg

Was there a poll as to who CP thinks would be the best replacement?

I am intrigued by Tim Hunter, but I think that Dave Lowry might be the best choice.
Lowry was WHL coach of the year 2 of his last four years with the Royals.

I actually feel bad for Gully right now. He absolutely had to go, but he’s a good person.

I don’t hold it against Treliving for not firing him earlier. GG was his guy and he wanted him to succeed. He gave him the whole season. As late as February 25th we were 2nd in the division. The meltdown during the stretch wasn’t all on him but he was part of it. IMO he’s just the first to pay for it. I think some other moves will be coming soon.

Didn't Tippett clash with Maloney? Doesn't seem like a good relation there.

I wonder if you'll see Gully end up coaching in Humboldt next season. Seems like he's really connected to that community - I feel like if he had an opportunity to help that community heal. He'd be the first one to sign up.

You're a good guy Glen. Hope he'll bounce back where ever he lands.

Well when you have a bad home record, a terrible PP and miss the playoffs there will be a shakeup. Just want to see an experienced coach come in that won’t bring along game-killing PPs. I agree with others that say this is probably Tre’s last head coach hire. Hope he gets it right.

Also knows Matthew Phillips who I think could be a star.

Vigneault and Keefe are also very intruiging

You have to feel bad for GG but clearly his system did not work with this group and he did not seem prepared to make the required adjustments.

This is a results driven business and GG was not able to deliver, full stop.

Hopefully he finds another job in the NHL. Best of luck to him and his family.

50/50 hockey...that's just eerie.

Flames didn't clean house enough.

Burke, King, Maloney, Tre, Sigalet, Gelinas, and Joosen, needed the axe today too.

Same old Flames, applying the Dilbert Principle.

I don't know we need another "good in junior, unproven in the NHL" coach.

If I were the GM, I'd promote Huska to NHL assistant coach, and bring in Lowry or Hunter as the AHL Head Coach.

I still don't think AV will coach this year unless someone backs up a brinks truck to his house. The guy is getting paid 8 million over two years not to coach.

Couldnt agree more. He seems like an amazing person, but he just wasnt what we needed right now.
