What, why would he do that? Either you're suggesting the Flames give a scalper tickets at a discount, which.........no. Or you're suggesting he buys direct from the Flames, which..........no.
The Flames market outside of the playoffs and a couple seasons after '04 would not support a scalper buying at face value, plus ticket master charges. Bronco man would be buying from season ticket holders, people needing to get rid of tickets last minute and other sources.

And then if the market cannot bear that price, they end up lowering the price.
I often buy tickets at below marked value, because they overbought them and are desperately trying to unload them before an event.

I thought most of the seats for the Leafs were sold with personal seat licenses. Seems like that should come with the rights to buy the seats at regular price. I will be bumping this thread if the Flames ever ask for a PSL on a new arena if it isn't in the contract.
Also seems like it might be worth it to limit numbers sold via nhl ticket exchange. I've sold most of my tickets the last couple years (two toddlers...) but maybe should switch to stub hub. If they call me in a couple years and say you need to pay extra when the team is good I'll be upset I kept them through the rebuild...

All scalpers prove is that the team is actually selling their tickets BELOW market value.
So I guess the team should increase prices?

He suggested to me one time he gets tickets to certain games at discounted/season ticket holder prices to get more people in the door. He suggested this to me when i bought tickets for the wife from him for the Canucks game 6 in 2014.
Whether that is true or not I don’t really know.

The argument against that is the team doesn't want to price everyone out of the game. Sure, they can charge high prices for the lower bowl type stuff, but they don't want to squeeze out everyone so there is (relatively) cheaper tickets in the upper bowls.
I see the moral side of that argument, but I agree with GGG that the scalpers are simply taking an intermediary risk and have to deal with both profits and losses. Playoffs are just good profit times for them as demand far exceeds supply.

I've been told through the grapevine he's part of some ticket exchange thing and has access to tickets to more or less any sporting event or concert in any city in NA.
No idea if that's true. All I know is he thinks he's a very big deal, when 99% of the people who encounter this guy think he's a knob.

It only came up after I asked why he was selling for so cheap when the market still seemed strong on Kijiji (found his tickets on kijiji and met at a bar). I’ve never bought from him again but thought it was odd.

I think if the teams or the league really wanted to, they could enforce maximum ticket prices for re-sellers on platforms like Ticketmaster and maybe even Stubhub and Kijiji. It's being done successfully on this website's ticket exchange. Why couldn't it be done on a major platform?

This bothers me but I blame the artist.
If the artists wanted to fight scalping they could require the credit card holder to be at the gate or the name of the person for each ticket to be required at time of purchase. They choose not to have any enforcement.
Part of the problem as well is the artists like to monetize their fan clubs and along with first right of refusal there are maybe 5000 tickets available to a given concert. So even without scalping you don't eliminate the problem of the instant sell outs. Also the computer aided purchasing doesn't help either.
The options are market price by the artist, scalping, or tickets secured against resale. These options are determined by the artist

No it doesn't mean that. Only some games sell above market - now if they were ALL scalping above market, then yes that would be true.
But teams have to sell the entire season to STHs and that means selling at an average price. If they sold games individually to take advantage of high demand, they also face the flipside, which is games with lower demand.

But if they do that, are they also going to guarantee minimum prices for less popular games?
Once the team has sold an entire season of games to the buyer, they have also transferred the risk of what those games will be worth, to the buyer.
Double-edged sword.

There are like 5 million people within driving distance who want that ticket. Supply and demand man. Pretty simple.

Sorry for the triple post.
I had a conversation about this with a guy who scalps in Toronto. He even had a business card and 5 other guys working for him (all in matching jackets). He told me straight up he get tickets from the leafs/jays. Mid conversation a car drove up and his lackey walked over and grabbed an envelope full of tickets (this was Grey cup 100) from the passenger. Must have been 30 tickets in it. It was weird experience, something shifty is happening.

He’s gotta get his tickets somewhere and Bronco guy doesn’t exactly scream “I can afford 20 sets of season tickets” more like “I live in a van down by the river”.
If he’s not getting them from the Flames (or someone in their ticket office), then I have no idea how he gets them.

He buys them cheaply from people who want to sell them and resells them for slightly more to people who want to buy them.
He also has a day job.
