This is why the puck over glass penalty is one of the dumbest rules in hockey.

I think that is the first time since that rule was introduced that I have seen the referees get the call wrong. There is nothing wrong with the penalty, and the fact that they get it right almost every time suggests that it is in fact a good rule.

The issue with the delay of game penalty is the black and white nature of the call. The refs have no room to make the call through judgment of the player’s intent.

The delay of game rule should be the same as the icing rule. You do it, you can't change lines.

It’s a horrible rule and here’s why: playoffs the refs largely let the teams play, they call less, particularly in overtime. So infractions are being missed / ignored all over the ice. But this silly puck over the glass thing cannot be ignored because the puck is literally gone.

Now it’s too late to get rid of it, and you need some deterrent so players don’t take advantage of it. But I would propose it is changed to a 1 minute penalty, instead of two.

Problem is that it is treated differently as icing. Which isn't really logical IMO.

The intent is to create power plays to increase scoring. But I have never watched a game hoping for more power plays. I have often wanted to see more goals though, so I do wish the league had the nerve to attack that issue head on.

I agree they rarely if ever get the call wrong, but that wouldn't be my basis for calling it a good rule.
