All those goalies were also good outside his system. So that looks more like talented goalie than just good system IMO.
Not to say that it can't mean he helps good goalies become great goalies.

It takes more than a great goalie to make the Stanley Cup finals. Flames with Kipper weren't that great outside of 1 season. (The season when they had the coach that later took another great goalie all the way to 2 championships.) Montreal with Price has never made the finals and only made the conference finals once.

Peters has a pretty lackluster coaching record as HC. One WHL championship (dominant team, 50W 15L), a few first round exits and missed playoffs every other year. This is inclusive of WHL, AHL and NHL.
Not exactly inspiring and I'm not sure if he's an upgrade on GG, hard pass from me.

I don't know nearly enough about Bill Peters to assess if he'd be good or not. I think it is hard to evaluate anything relates to the Canes as they've been really restricted in terms of what they could do, and haven't had very good teams.

This fact alone makes it very very unlikely GG will be let go because of just one season. Those folks who have actually had the privilege (?) of assembling and supervising staff, will agree that few managers will give up so easily on their picks.

Even if you buy into the notion that it's 100% a roster/goaltending/budget and not a coaching issue, what exactly has Bill Peters done in Carolina to make the Canes a team better than the sum of their parts? Has anyone here even heard his name before this information started making the rounds? Why should he be considered a part of the Calgary Flames finally rising to contender status?
My red flags go up right away when the focus of conversation is making excuses for past failures and hoping things will miraculously be different here. I got the same vibe from Gulutzan the day he was hired. Bill Peters is a huge nope for me and would stink of Treliving trying to be the smartest guy in the room once again if it did happen.

It's not just one season though. Even though they made the playoffs last season was underwhelming too. It just got even worse this season.

So was that Peter's ? Or the system being employed?

Or playing on a losing team that wasn't making the playoffs?

I know if GG is still coach around the season ticket holder meetings Treliving’s will have some tough questions to answer. Swapping him for Peters likely does not eliminate those questions.

Gulutzan's team in many stretches has looked like the best team on the ice, and then couldn't finish. That was especially true in the playoffs last year. To me this means our team is better than the system they are playing in. We've seen many players on our team provide better goal scoring in other systems, and outside of Backlund, Ferland, Monahan, and Gaudreau, and Tkachuk (who I believe are just on the upwards trend toward the career primes), most other forwards have been underwhelming. While I believe we are going to add some offence in the offseason, I think you'll see many in our bottom 6 have better seasons in more complimentary system.
I've heard inside talk about Peters and it also included the Burke was going to be ousted as well, with Maloney taking his role.

I just want to see Dave Cameron gone. How that man has a job still is beyond me. I get taking your time with GG but damn it Tre. Fire Cameron into the sun.

Has the coach been fired yet? I keep looking online and nothing. Is there a Flames customer service number I can call?
I vote for Sutter or AV. Although I have a soft spot for Torts even though it looks like he's safe now if they pull out of the series with the Caps.

....Id rather stay with Gulutzan than go with Torts. We would be coach shopping again in at least 1-2 years if we went with him

is there a world in which either Peters or Gulutzan take an associate coach position to the other as the head coach?
One coach isn't enough! Must double up! 2x coach = 2x better!

I'm not sure your post makes sense. If Gulutzan's team looked good but couldn't finish - that's not a systems problem to me, it's a player problem.
It's funny that you say outside of 5 players that "most other forwards" have been underwhelming and that they've produced better in other systems. Who are you talking about? Frolik had his highest production under GG (albeit not a lot more than when he was in Winnipeg and he was out for more games under Hartley). Lazar had his second highest season under GG. But Hathaway and Jankowski haven't really played under anyone else at the NHL level. Stajan, Brouwer and Jagr - do you think a different coach gets more goals out of them? The only ones a different coach might impact are Bennett and maybe Brouwer.

Bill Peters? If that's who they are targeting for GG replacement , I rather they stick with GG for final year and look elsewhere next year. Sorry but that's not much of an upgrade on GG. Owners it's time to open up your wallets on the coaching front.

I'll agree with this take. One guy ran two powerplays into the ground on separate teams. Take a hike ya hoser.

At least if they hire peters my optimism would be at an all time low for this team. No way they can let me down then.
