Default Leafs Ripping off Scalpers. Boohoo

Can't say i feel sorry for them. I"m surprised the government doesn't do more to prevent scalping.

Quote:
Without warning, MLSE last month sent out a new kind of renewal notice to some Leafs and Raptors season ticket holders, alerting them they've been identified as "commercial resellers." To renew seats for the 2018-19 season, MLSE said they'd have to pay a 30 per cent markup over regular customers.

In one example, regular fans are charged $21,556 for a pair of gold seats for 42 home games, and resellers are charged $28,454 for similar seats.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/mlse...rket-1.4618848

and I think what the Jets is doing is great. Unfortunately doesn't look like the Flames will have any of these problems any time soon.

Quote:
The Jets even have a policy of requiring season ticket holders to pay a security deposit and sign a contract prohibiting commercial resales.

Tulloch, the podcaster, says Toronto needs to take a page from the Jets.

"If they can identify who the scalpers are and who's not actually using the tickets to the games, who's just reselling them every single time, I'd like to see them taken off the season ticket holder list. That'll be a good start, really," Tulloch said.

Well, the NHL is double-dipping. They're getting paid for seasons tickets AND getting a cut from ticket re-selling, so this is actually good for teams, no?

Bad for fans, but do these teams really care?

Nothing would make me happier not having to see Bronco man and his crew every time I walk out of the vic station.

How much of a cut do the NHL teams actually get from the ticketmaster fee?

They fail to mention in the article to buy Maple Leafs season tickets you also need to purchase Raptors season tickets

The reason why many Raptor tickets are easily donated and given away by Maple Leafs fans. I guess these season ticket holders can now be labeled commercial sellers and have both season tickets prices now increased

What an underhanded money grab

I don't know about this.
I know 4 ML season ticket holders - 2 have held tickets since the '60's - never have they mentioned Raptors tickets (and if anyone knows how to whine about tickets it's ML fans). If it were indeed the case my buddy would have given the raptors tix to another friend of ours who is a huge raptors fan.

If you have platinum seats you have to buy the license ($15K) and then tickets to ALL events on top of that. You do have refusal rights on some tickets.

The ML make you buy playoff tickets to ALL rounds (always assuming they are going to the SCF) up front, then reimburse the cost (no interest).

Of the 4 STH I know, only 1 keeps the whole season for themselves. The others all split the season with partners or the tix get sold with a few held back.

All the new surcharge does is raise the price to the buyers. good luck.

Leafs are charging $286 for one ticket in the upper deck greens. Regular season is $110. They are an embarrassment, actually their fans are embarrassing for putting up with that.

i wonder if those commercial resellers/scalpers are claiming income tax on the tickets they resell?

to me the leafs control their product, and the market will tell them when they are charging too much.

What true leafs fan wouldn't pay that to watch their team get spanked by the Bruins 8-1 tonight?

I don't have much sympathy for people who hate scalping. In the leafs market where there is scarcity it's a little different but for the Flames even in the best times the mark ups were reasonable given the risk.

Everyone complains that Edm vs Cal goes for high prices but no one cares when that Phoenix game on Tuesday goes unsold or that end of the year games are worthless after the team craters. The season ticket holder exists to offload risk from the owner to the fans. When fans or brokers are able to profit from absorbing that risk it shouldn't be looked down upon.

How about when concert tickets go on sale and they are all sold out in 30 seconds and a minute later they are 10 times the price online?

instead of just charging more to brokers/scalpers, shouldn't MLSE be revoking their tickets instead?

For sure! That's what the Jets did. System is broken.

I tried dealing with him once for a World Junior game and he was unbelievably rude.

I ended up buying more expensive tickets online just to spite him. I made sure he knew about it. Haven’t bothered talking to him since.
