Good thing we were patient! It was obvious to anyone with a shred of common sense things would get much better.

It's a combination of both, but this organizations biggest detriment the last 25 years has been poor drafting and development. They've never been able to supplement their cores with good cheap solid depth through the draft. So then the GM ends up trading away pick after pick after pick to add depth players and/or making terrible UFA signings in an attempt to fill out the roster.

None of those three are guys that really fit at the time, I don’t think they were “pissed away” for size. Byron literally lost his spot to Mason Raymond of all people. Size?? Not in that guy.
Why wouldn't Granlund have a spot at centre, he is better then Stajan.

If Treliving refuses to fire Gulutzan than he is refusing to acknowledge that Gulutzan & his coaching staff are the primary reason the team were dysfunctional especially the second half of the season. Treliving should be 100% be fired if he is unwilling to change his opinion on Gulutzan.
"We have a really good coach" Treliving said 2 days ago. Screw you Treliving.

If Gulutzan is not fired Treliving is just plain pig headed.

And when the fans embrace a rebuild and youth movement, management pulls the plug early on that strategy and starts trading away picks like crazy.

Missing the playoffs is less disappoint when you have picks and free agents to look forward to.

I really think this coming season is BTs last chance with the Flames to get the formula right.

That is not the reason the Flames moved on from any of these players.

You dont have enough information for that determination to be definitive.

I have it good authority that King's Corsi stats are off the charts and Burke has mad Fenwick.

Our coach needs at least....another 160-320 games for us to have enough information to determine whether he has any idea what hes doing.

On a positive note, if we gave him another 320 games he ought to at least be able to learn how to become an NHL head coach in that time.

I can't see how passing up on that was something to give credit for.

(Not that I think it would have made a difference. Plus different teams and systems. But still.)

I meant not qualifying him. IIRC he would have had to be qualified for a lot more. I could be wrong though.

Also, he would have been behind both Bennett and Janko in the bottom six with those numbers. Personally I would have welcomed him back on that contract, but can see why they went with Versteeg instead, but who knew Versteeg would suffer the injuries he suffered.

It was because he had the reclamation stigma that Flames fans despise due to reclamation projects too often being brought in to actually fill a critical spot rather than just be a bonus if they work out.

He started strong in the NHL and then struggled and teams were chasing the 22 year old, 13 goal scorer on the rise in Dallas. Then he actually scored 12 goals with us and was gone.

He would have looked great in our bottom six this year, but he was always going to be Alex "not a top six solution" Chaisson and was cut loose.

If Brouwer weren't under contract, they may have looked at re-signing Chiasson.

But I fail to see how that would have made any difference to this team.

We don't have a super-talented bottom 6, that is without question. However, it shouldn't have been as bad as it was, and I blame the systems for a large chunk of that.

If we are to be Intellectually Honest with ourselves, another 320 games of The Process and we are sure to have Something Special. It's a toss up whether The Process or The Plan will result in Something Special first.

But we're not trading any prospects?

Granlund was better than Stajan offensively when he was traded. I don't think he was better defensively, and he was certainly not better at faceoffs. Regardless, Stajan was under contract, couldn't be traded, whereas Granlund was coming up as an RFA with arb rights IIRC. It's unfair to say Granlund was traded in favour of keeping Stajan.

I remember when Granlund got 7 goals in 8 games once and I seriously started to wonder if we had the better Granlund brother.

Well Byron lost his spot to Brandon Bollig, that was the guy BT really wanted to hang on to.

But BT does have a problem with Feaster guys (Byron, Baertschi, Granlund), his guys usually get buried in the minors (Bollig), bought out (Raymond) or given enough time to eventually show their value (Brouwer).
