Good. Not the dirtiest hit or anything but he was clearly headhunting and it's something they have to remove from the game.

Can't argue with that decision. I also like how they clarified main point of contact vs first point of contact in the suspension video

Don't get me wrong- can't STAND Doughty and his whiny, fake-tough guy routine, but not sure if I agree with the severity of the punishment. Can't argue there was some head contact and it was an aggressive hit- worthy of some discipline. This is their star NHL defenseman with no suspension history. Just seems like DOPS twists the interpretation of the rules to support their decision. They admit the arm/shoulder was the first point of contact but interpret it wasn't the 'main point of contact'. How do you quantify that? Play happens so fast out there- if you go in to shoulder a guy from the side, hit the arm/shoulder first and the follow through catches the head on the way through that's a miscalculation, not dirty.
Carrier was massively running Doughty all game- no charging penalties dished out. He was running Gio in the last flames/knights game which is where he came onto my radar. For an 'energy' tough guy, Carrier sure can't seem to take what he dishes out. Another player that runs guys till the cows come home but you run him back he goes crying to the officials. 1 NHL fight this whole season.

Who he is shouldn't play into the discussion when evaluating a dirty play IMO and Doughty is no saint. Also I'm a little confused about the "can't seem to take what he dishes out" comment as he got his bell rung. It's not like ability to take a head shot has any correlation to how tough or hard nosed a player is. Carrier plays the way we wish Ferland would play on a nightly basis finishing checks and taking a toll on opposition players and I'm pretty sure the league isn't going out of their way to protect him.

Will be attending the Golden Knights fan watch party at MGM Grand on Sunday night. Will let everyone know what it was like. I'm curious to see how strong of support their fan base has during an away playoff game.

Had a buddy attend a game in Vegas at end of reg season.
They did an announcer callout
how many people are here from...

According to him, crowd was really overwhelmingly Vegas based. Which surprised him a little.

Still don't understand the surprise. The Las Vegas area is twice the size of Calgary in terms of population and has been pretty much sports starved until recently.

And they have gone out of their way to make it easier for locals to buy tickets...that being said when Calgary/Edmonton were there this season it was almost 50/50

I agree it shouldn't matter who the player is - but decisions made in the past by DOPS seem to consider who the player is. I also fully agree Doughty is no saint, I am not a fan. Trust me- at the game last year where he was chirping Tkachuk I was the loudest guy at the game chirping him.
I just think context is important. Plug has been running skilled player all game. Skilled player responds and hits plug and there is head contact at some point (not targeting the head). Doughty could have picked a better way to respond (clean hit, fight (yeah right!)) but the fact is Doughty is a little child with a temper so he hit too aggressively. But 1 game vs. just a fine? Whatever, worse decisions have been made. I just don't think Carrier is an honest player, and they had a history, so context is considered.
Maybe I am just still bitter that Carrier was running the flames (flattened Gio) in a nothing game last saturday. Or bitter that an expansion team is at the top of the league and we aren't in the playoffs. I know, I need to let go....

What a surprise, Carrier is dressed and playing in game 2... Must have been a serious injury.

Watching how aggressive the knights play of forecheck/backcheck and how quick they transition the puck from defence up the ice...it tells you everything you need to know about why Gully hockey is boring and ineffective. Seemingly, most of the Knights scoring opportunities are because of this...

Huh. Expansion team hovers near the top of the league in the standings all year long, makes the playoffs, then wins not only their first playoff game ever, but the second as well.Either the fix is in,or a lot of long established teams just really suck...

Can’t we ever have something unexpected happen without it being a fix? Or maybe the long running established teams aren’t bad, but Vegas has built something solid and are pulling through with hard work? Dislike the team sure, but comments like that do nothing but sap fun out of things.

Have you been watching the games? I don’t know the actual numbers but from the eye test Vegas has dominated so far. Possession/shots/scoring chances all 5 on 5. That would be one hell of a fix to convince the entire Kings squad to let the Vegas team just run over them all game.

The reality here, direct quote from my friend from last night, this vegas team is a reminder to most GMs just how bad they are at their jobs.

Vegas outshot them 56 to 30. Fifty six. If not for Quick these games aren't even close. It's actually a lot like WPG/MIN except WPG has more skill and thus finishes more of their chances than does Vegas.
