What would the cost of buying out Brouwer be? 6M?
That would be a 1.5M cap hit over the next 4 years?

The 960 guys this morning were saying how they just don't see Brouwer back next season. Maybe the last year of the deal they may consider but two years seems hard to swallow for this ownership group.

Is it better to pay him 9M over 2 year to do nothing or 6M over 4 years to do nothing?

in 17/18, we had a total of $1816667.00 in buyout cap penalties from Murphy, Bouma, and Raymond.
In 18/19, we're poised to have $904167.00 in buyout cap penalties from Bouma and Murphy.
I don't think buying out Brouwer and carrying an additional 1.5M in buyout penalty in 18/19, and then having Brouwer be the only buyout penalty on the books for the 3 years following 18/19 as a bad thing. It's certainly better than having him on the roster.

Yawn. If I’m the owners do I want to piss away millions of dollars on getting rid of a guy with a long decent resume, actually paying that guy not to play, or direct that money towards replacement of a loser coach?

Flames are 3 years away from having to pay Dougie $7-$9M and 4 years before Johnny needs likely over $10M. The team really needs to make some noise while this core is still relatively cheap.

Rumor that Linden Vey will sign with the CSKA of the KHL for next season.
The Flames have his RFA rights for another season. He becomes UFA after the 18/19 season.

If I am the owner I fire KK, BB and BTfor getting me into this mess.
Replace KK with Lanny
Replace BB with Conroy
Replace BT with Tod Button (keep our capologist, Pascal?)

Lanny and Conroy in the head positions . . . . Sounds like we are going down Oiler territory, no?

That is assuming Brad does not sign any more bad contracts in free agency. So far he has signed the following guys
Raymond - buyout
Engelland - good signing
Hiller - we survived it
Frolik - good signing
Brouwer - potential buy out
Versteeg - good signing
Jagr - released him mid season.
Stone - wait and see, not sure we won't be wanting to buy him out next year.
4 out of 8 questionable free agent signings and 2 buyouts does not lead one to believe we could avoid future buyouts. If I am the owners I am assuming Brad will make at least one terrible UFA signing every 2 years minimum.

FWIW I bet that's not an unusual record. I guess we aren't counting college UFAs?

Has Frolik really been a good signing?
All I see is a third liner who's making 4.3 million/year. Ideally I'd pay half of that for what he brings to the table.

Yeah Frolik was a positive signing still IMO.
He had a rough year with injuries and didn't produce enough offense, but I can't fault Treliving for that.

Pretty much. He has historically been a 0.5 pt/game player who plays very well in his own zone, and is coming off of a down-year. He is definitely much more than just a third liner.

And how is Stone a buyout candidate??? I can see him moving to the top 4 if needed. Brouwer has been the worst signing because it was a bigger contract, Hiller was a bad signing but there weren't many options available, the Raymond deal sucked but it's not like it was a big dollar deal and signing Jagr was great just to see him wear a Flames jersey.
Overall he hasn't made many bad signings IMO.

Going to disagree with that. He wouldn't be a top 6 forward on a good team.
