I would agree. There have been some cryptic refernces to Hamilton from member of the media. Rob Kerr the other day, "let's just say for instance that you trade Dougie Hamilton this offseason." The skipping out on media exit interview came up quite a few times.
Could be nothing at all but I also feel like there's at least a little bit of meat on that bone.

The media guys really don’t like him and it does seem that they’ve banded together against him... maybe he said something to one of them but basically when even Lou doesn’t defend you as a player then you’ve done something to piss him off

Sure, his offensive abilities are high rate. But he doesn’t seem to have that burning desire to win in terms of how hard he competes in his own zone or on the back check. Not sure there’s any reason to believe it will ever change. I’m not sure he has a burning desire to be one of the best overall defensemen in the league even though he has the skill and physical tools to be one of the best. Based on the way he competes in his own zone it seems like he’s content being what he is, a puck mover and offensive contributor who has defensive lapses and a lot of the time does not give it his all to “defend”. I think compete level is something that players don’t really learn or improve at. They either have it or they don’t. Tkachuk has it. Some guys don’t have it as much.
I understand some people are fine with what Dougie is. I’m not sure it’s a huge problem for the Flames. I certainly don’t think he has to be moved.
However he may be moved because
1. His trade value is massive for the reasons you like him
2. His compete level compared to his talent is lacking at times
3. We have the greatest depth on defense out of all our positions
As Loubardias says, Treliving has to decide who on the team are guys that you can and will win with. Guys who you’ll go to war with. It’s not obvious Hamilton has to go. Maybe he is part of the solution. Personally I’m starting to wonder if maybe you entertain the idea of moving him for the reasons I stated above. I find his comittment to being the best in his own zone and being the hardest to play against in his own zone lacking a bit too much for my liking at times. As I’ve said in other threads I’d probably trade Brodie ahead of trading Hamilton if trading Brodie gets you what we need. I think you can live with having a bit of a one-dimensional offensive dman. But that said Hamilton may just fetch offers that dwarf what Brodie can get and all things considered he may be the piece they decide to move.
Loubardias today on the radio admitted that we see Hamilton struggle with compete, defensive lapses and that he isn’t a physical guy. My perhaps poor paraphrasing

Guess we’ll see in time which piece Treliving moves

When I attended games with my grandson this year, I specifically watched Hamilton. I agree completely with what you say about him. I would add that at times, he is a complete pylon out there.
I just wonder how many of Hamilton's shortcomings are covered by playing with Gio? I did think he made some progression middle of last year though.
If we keep Hamilton, will he be able to bring all the things that Gio does? Will he be able to be our #1 defense man in the future? At this point, I have my doubts.

Dougie is easily our best defensive asset currently. With his age, size, contract, skill he brings a ton of value to the Flames and he hasn’t even necessarily hit his ceiling.
When we got him from Boston many of us ignored the hate that spewed from that city from the fan base. They justified the move by claiming he was an “uppity loner” the media had just as much disdain for him there as they do here. In my opinion there is no doubt that acquiring Freddie was part of his co tract negotiation (rumored by the media).
There is no doubt the guy is a great player but he doesn’t scream “number 1 Dman” or strike me as someone who would wear a letter. I think the Flames can get a lot more for him than they gave up so now could be the time to make that move. His age and contract make him attractive to contenders or rebuilding teams.
A team like the Sabres who want out of the rebuild cycle might be willing to part with a combination of assets that include 1st (if they fall to 4th), RoR, Reinhart, Nylander
As discussed Toronto has 2 young right shot wings that would be appealing.
Arizona has some good young pieces like Domi, 1st, Dvorak, Strome, or maybe OEL
Would Dallas consider moving Seguin?
Florida has some nice young players, Carolina is looking for a shakeup, if a team is bounced in the first round unexpectedly they could be in the market for Dougie.
I am willing to roll the dice that Brodie will bounce back under a new coach and a move to the right side. I think Dougie is the player we dangle to shake things up and most importantly add scoring. Look at Boston with Carlo and McAvoy they do not miss Dougie really at all. Hopefully Andersson, Valimaki, Kylington, and/or Fox can do the same for the Flames

I don’t see him as a Gulutzan replacement but I wonder if Ryan Huska might join the staff and replace Paul Jerrard? Huska is regarded as somewhat of a “defenseman whisperer” and maybe they feel like he could help this heavily hyped top six meet their expectations.

Yup. Treliving should have done what the Rangers did with AV and pull the trigger as soon as the horn blew to end the last game. GG should have been escorted by security from behind the bench to his car in the parking lot. Get it done and move the hell on. You have nothing to learn from listening to Gulutzan. Get on with it already.

I know that 'quick decisions' aren't BT's thing. I wasn't expecting GG to be gone the day after the season ended. However, I can still argue that it would probably be the right thing to do.
It's not like the last week or two have really opened our eyes to who GG is. The reason this concerns me is that A) BT isn't willing to make a call that I believe is necessary, or B) BT is undecided despite a large enough body of evidence established well before the end of the season. Both concern me.

Am I the only one who's worried that he's coming on to announce his awesome plans for next year's team? I'm sure he and Cameron have some great new ideas for the PP. Can't wait!

We've already had 30 years of incompetence shoved down our throats. What's another year?

Flames can keep staying mediocre for years to come. There are two elite coaches sitting at home that are way better than GG. It isn't rocket science just send him packing and bring in some credibility behind the bench in AV or Sutter.

If I am a head coach that is "elite" I fear coming into an organization that has a history of firing coaches. We want all these amazing people to come rescue our team, but do they want to come here? Or will they wait for another opportunity? It takes two to tango. Maybe BT has reached out to those guys and they said no. If you don't have a replacement, you might as well keep GG and tell him to replace his assistants.
