More like 7.5 to 8 million for Stone and 12+ million for Karlsson.

Is Holtby going to be available is Washington?
I think it would be interesting to offer Brodie, but also kindly remind the Caps GM that the NHL has an expansion draft coming up in the next year or two and would lose one of his two goalies for nothing in the draft.. Brodie may be the best option in that situatuon for the Caps

Grubauer won more games in 2018 (calendar year) than Holtby for the Caps. And has been their starter down the stretch. The third season that Grubauer has posted good numbers as the 'backup.' Career 0.923 in now a respectful 135 NHL games. (Edit: Hockeydb double counting 2018, still 0.923 in 100 NHL games).
Grubauer just named the starter for game 1.
Something's going to give there.

I think the Pens have shown having 2 great goalies is never a bad thing. Just always go with the hot goalie. No way are they getting rid of Holtby. He was arguably the best goalie in the league last year.

Holtby will probably cost more than brodie alone. Goalies with his numbers just don't get traded in this era of hockey. The only one that's remotely close is the schneider trade (schneider was not as good as holtby) and that was one if the only trade since the cap that was straight up for a top 10 pick.

Holtby has a limited ntc too so he would control some of his own destiny. I wonder if he becomes the Seattle tender a la fleury? It would save Washington dough on his contract, they could two goalie for one more year and try and hit a cup, washungton wouldnt have to worry about another player getting selected and Seattle would have a greater chance to pull a Vegas.
So if we want holtby, we'd not only have to hope that Washington wants to trade him and that he wants to come here, but also make up for the lottery draft implications value wise.

They had no choice. There won't be another expansion draft for at least 2 years (when Holtby will be a UFA).

Is that Ilya Samsonov? Feel like he's going to need a year in the AHL for adapting purposes.

Fleury, Halak, Schneider, Andersen, sort of Mrazek, recent history would suggest that teams do not prefer 1a/1b goaltending tandems, other than Dallas. At least not compared to the benefits that teams have acquired in moving them.

Good luck finding that cap space on a long term UFA deal.

Grubauer is an RFA next year so maybe they sign him long-term and shop Holtby.
Holtby is actually on a pretty decent contract and only has 2 years left after this. For some reason I thought he had just signed a long-term deal with the Caps for bigger money.

So let's say Carlson gets 8.5 a year. Hamiliton gets 5.5 a year right now?
So the Leafs are giving you Nylander AND a 1st for 3 years of Hamilton and save 3 million in cap space. Yeah, no thanks.
Leafs aren't doing either (Hamilton or Carlson) but in no situation are the Leafs even considering trading any of the Top 3 plus a draft pick for 3 years of Hamilton.
Were you the guy on here that said you wouldn't trade Marner for Brodie one-for-one? That the Leafs would have to add? Not sure if it was you.
Hate to say it but some people on here over-value your players and don't think if the other team in your fantasy trades actually would even want/need that player.

Fill a void to open up another void. Unless Hamilton is an issue in dressing room, I'd rather get top 6 winger through UFA with Stajan off books and Brouwer buy-out.
|
Hamonic. He had the same responsibilities in NY during the best stretch of his career. He is a tremendous defender, but Brodie had him wondering where the hell to be all year because TJ was...well...horrible and continually getting out of position.
I agree that Hamilton for Nylander+ is a deal they have to look at really hard. I am a fan of Dougies as well, but he isnt as complete a player as you would like and his offensive acumen under a guy like Babcock could lead to astounding results.

No I didn't say that...I also didn't say the Leafs needed Dougie. Just agreed with what it would cost if they did want him.
You also can't compare a 50 point Dman on the Flames with a 50 point Dman on the Leafs this season. Look how few goals the Flames scored.
And since when is he a bad defender? Plus player on one of the worst differential teams in the league playing against the other teams best players.
