Default Jim Rome PPP

So my personal pet peave about Jim Rome is that Jim will read 'inflamatory' emails on the air, then get in a huff and say, don't send me these kinds of emails blah blah blah. It seems to me this is his way of saying these things without actually being accountable for saying them. If he really doesn't want them read or to encourage people from sending them, he would just not read them and tell Travis Rogers not to give them to him.

It is kind of like the ventriloquist using his dummy to say outrageous things. It has alway bugged me about Rome... In my opinion Rome is as fake as the WWE, and altough he does have some fantastic interview, this causes me to have no respect for him as a broadcaster. What I like about Mike Richards is that there is no pretense - he just says whatever is on his mind at any given time.

Wow - that fells better, getting that off my chest feels like I just went to confessional (except I am not catholic).

that might be the sound of "his schtick" going over your head.

when he sayd "dont send me these" what he means is "keep sending these so I can continue with my juvenile frat boy humour".

he loves that stuff, you need to tune your Jim Rome meter.

yeah, i listened to a lot of jim rome when i worked nights a few years back, i'd doze and listen because there was nothing else on the radio at that time.

after a while i 'got' jim rome, when the constant references to something the clones had been droning on aboot for weeks made sense.

he'll quite often pull out the feigned 'overwhelmed by bad e-mail' thing to drum up some more comedy, and quite honestly, there is some seriously choice stuff that floats his way.

andre in ottawa and jeff on a car phone in vegas and some other colourful guys always spiced up the show.

i really think there's dozens / hundreds of people that make jim rome their daily purpose, they do nothing but send him funny stuff and work on their takes.

there's obviously thousands of bored cubinmates that ship e-mails as bare minimum, quite a phenomenon.

i never really listened to rome after that spring / summer of vampiric lifestyle, but i do 'get' it.

The original post here is ridiculous. That's the way his show operates, and it's fairly obvious that it isn't for everybody. If you don't like what the show offers, don't listen in anymore.

My subscription to his podcast ran out this past October, and I haven't renewed...probably won't either. I don't have the time to dedicate three hours a day to Rome anymore.

I dont care what anyone says I love Rome and always have. I remeber when I first heard him when 66CFR used to carry the show late in the evenings and I thought "who is this a** clown"? But sure enough like he says, he is an aquired taste and now almost 10 years later I still think he is friggen hilarous and also has some very good sports takes and interviews. Not to mention the fact he is one of the very few American national media personalities that gives the NHL not only alot of respect, but he will talk about it, and brings in HUGE names for interviews including Iggy, Messier, Mario etc.

Yeah dude, no ****, that's his schtick.

Don't mind the guy, listen in once in a while but a lot less since I've gotten my satellite radio.

Rome read of on my emails after the Iginla interview, that was cool to hear.

The worst part of his show are the Clones. He is pretty good at speaking with athletes, and has some interesting opinions. When he lets clones call in with their "smack" it just sounds like verbal diarrhea and has about as much value.

what bugs me about Rome is that he is always declaring himself the Pimp for the NHL, yet he devotes an awful small portion of his show to the sport.

He compared to ESPN Radio that Devotes all of 0% of there air time to the NHL Rome talks about the NHL a lot for an American, also I read on here once that he once said he wanted to give the NHL more air time but couldn’t because the sponsors of his show would let him

ESPN radio sucks for NHL coverage, but Fox Sports Radio is very good though. Since I got my XM a year ago I have listened to a ton of XM and many of there hosts give the NHL alot of coverage. JT the Brick is very good for NHL but Bruce Jacobs on the weekends is great he is a HUGE hockey fan and talks about it every show during the season, and he is F-ing funny too.

The only guy on ESPN radio that gives some NHL props is Jason Smith on the "All Night" show, he is a HUGE NHL fan, in fact a huge Canes and former Whalers fan and talks about the NHL alot. During last years playoffs he did this thing where he apparently did his show nude every time the Canes played beacuse he said it was good luck, pretty funny stuff.

Consider the audience he is trying to reach.

Even so, he has dedicated much more time to hockey than many other American hosts.

I can't stand him for the most part talking to athletes because of the way he sucks up to them. He hates guys who don't come on his show and loves guys who do.

As soon as some guy comes on his show he is right there kiising thier ass, no matter what he has said about them in the past. The guys who come on his show are the greatest guys in the world and the guys who don't are all pieces of crap.

I used to really like Rome but now can't really stand him. Listening to him maybe once a week for an hour or two is good for me, any longer and his schtick gets on my nerves.

I give him credit though he has built a great career for himself, which he doesn't mind reminding everyone. I just wonder what will happen first: his arm falling off from patting himself on his back so much or his lips becoming permanently stuck on some athletes ass from kissing it so much.

He may suck up to some, but that is a huge fallacy...ever seen the Jim Everett clip? If not google it.

I've seen him call a few guys out. One was a college ballplayer who hit some sort of home run record and was just an ass. Another was the boxer who talked about how he had met Charles Manson in jail and how Manson was just misunderstood.

In general, I agree that he does seem to cozy up to guests, but so many who depend upon athletes to call in do that as well. (The ESPN football crew (esp Theisman) are the worst for that. With how much they gush about every player who they talked to in meetings, you could swear those players gave them fellatio in return for the raves!)

Rome is the best

I listen to him all the time at work.

He talks about sports and then all of a sudden something comes up and he'll talk about it for a half hour, whether its crocs in LA, his plane rides, his old radio job, his show is the best radio show is the best one to listen too and we get it during the day. Can't complain I love it.

Seen it plenty of times.

That was when Rome was trying to make a name for himself and it worked out perfectly.

Rome does at times call guys out but normally it is guys who do not come on his show.

When guys are on the show he acts as though they are the greatest players in the history of their sport and the best guys in the world. I know everyone host has to do this to some extent or else nobody comes on but he seems to do way more than anyone else.

I listen to a lot of sports radio and find the ESPN way better than him and the Fox guys as well. I dont mind talk about college football, NASCAR, NFL etc. so I love ESPN.
