Quality for quantity. That's a great idea and I'm sure that wouldn't blow up in our faces at all.

Is the interview not playing for other people? Sportsnet screws up posting this stuff from time to time...so just hoping someone has some insight in how to hear this chat

**edit** Found Transplant's post - thanks buddy!

Trading Gaudreau would be stupid. He is 40% of the offense. I don't particularly care what he does on defense for 6.5 million his offensive contribution is enough.

You don't trade him unless you are blowing up this incarnation of the flames. Personally I'd rather ride this out and get your big hall in the last 2 years of his contract.

I don't believe any package you get make sus better over the next 3 years

I wonder who he's talking about? My bet is Brodie or Bennett or brouwer and here's why: when you feel stuck in your pigeon hole, it's human nature to become emotionally detatched from your position in life and just "go out and do what's asked of you" while have as little emotional investment as possible. Anyone who has been in a bad work environment will understand this where you have a terrible boss who wants things does "his way" even if they're the wrong way.

Brodie - forced to play the wrong side. I could see how he might get emotionally detached.
Brouwer - fourth line role after being pegged to potentially play the first line when signing here. He's obviously a bottom six player but in his head he's probably a top 6. His exit interview last year reeked of selfawareness. I can also see how a vet wearing an A and making 4.5m per season doing nothing could poison a locker room culture.
Bennett - complete loss of confidence. The system doesn't fit his hard checking, fast transition ways. Given his young age and high pedigree I can see a situation where he might have trouble handling this type of adversity and detatch.

IMO the fact that Bennett didn't thrive in the system tells you everything you need to know about the system. If Bennett is traded before we get a new coach I'm going to be extremely disappointed. In my head, bennetts ability to thrive in this league is as obvious as the need to replace gully was in November. It should be clear to anyone with an eye for the game that he's core skills are built for today's game.

It's entire possible that Bennett needs to play fast to be at his best. And the flames play slow which is what is constraining his ability to be effective and end up taking a lot of penalties (pent up frustration and energy).

My money is on one/both of Brodie and Bennett going.

Overhaul the coaching staff.

Not way you trade JG. From an average fans perspective, it would be pandemonium.

If this management group wants to trade Gaudreau then I want all of them fired.

LOL @ you don't win with players like Gaudreau. You most certainly do win with players who are PPG and drive almost the entire offence. Sure it's not ideal to have him as ''the main man'' up front. But that's not his fault. If Monahan can work his way up to the next tier of C, or Bennett start to play like a top 6 player, suddenly he doesn't need to be the main cog up front. But as of now, IMO Gaudreau is as unmovable as it gets. This team is straight f'd without him.

So before comments like

"I'd trade Gaudreau and Hamilton cause if they only care about stats they can gtfo"

I think this is exactly what Tre meant when he said

There are way too many proposals for trading Gaudreau, but I would trade Monahan 10/10 before trading Johnny. To me, he's who Francis is hinting at.

I understand that not all players are going to get visibly wound up to show that they're passionate and competitive, but I expect them to step up and play with that passion no matter what. Monahan is a great player, but I never see him raising that level when the team needs a boost, or when things are hard. I just don't see him doing what it takes to win.

He might not return what Gaudreau would, but he's still going to get a huge return.

This is pretty hilarious isn't it. Well, the team grossly underachieved, put an unpopular uninspired product on the ice, pissed off an entire fan base with a bevy of stupid moves both on the ice and off so yeah let's just move the one super popular player we have who produces and is on a great contract that helps the team make other moves to stay competitive.

Give your head a shake people.

I particularly love how he said Monahan doesn't care about winning just 48 hours before it was announced he was playing through potentially season ending injurieS while the team was still in the last stages of the hunt.

Francis is doing what he does. The fact it feeds the hysteria of the small but very vocal group of chicken-littles in this fanbase is the truly sad part.

Team sucks, can't make the playoffs, don't consider EVERY possible avenue to improve your team. Brilliant.

There is no good reason not to listen to offers on every roster player.

You DO NOT trade talent of the likes of Johnny or Hamilton.

Sorry, but those guys are home runs in terms of talent and contract, you supplement them but you absolutely do not deal them.

I don’t think I have ever been accused of being a chicken little
Maybe try to debate people without labeling them

Just an FYI this is now the 2nd post you've responded to (that was quoting someone else) implying it was talking about you that wasn't.

While I disagreed with what you said earlier, that doesn't mean everything I've said after is directed at you.

It’s just not a credible discussion to talk about trading Gaudreau unless you identify the players you are targeting. Trading Gaudreau isn’t addition by subtraction. You are not auctioning off an asset in a rebuild.

It’s about acquiring elite talent. The fact that no one is willing to identify the player they’d target in dealing Gaudreau speaks volumes about the idea.
