Default SJHL Jr A Humboldt Broncos team bus crash

Not much more info right now. Broncos were headed for Nipawin for a playoff game and bus involved in an accident with a semi.
Hearing some unconfirmed reports of fatalities though. Stars air ambulance is/has been to the crash site.

A picture just got posted to Twitter that’s supposedly of the scene. It’s not graphic or anything. But all I see is mangled wreckage.

I’ve heard 7 dead at this point.

So tragic, hard to comprehend.

That news station (which Im not naming) is trash for posting that. Outta of respect for the players families it should be deleted.

RCMP released a statement confirming fatalities but won’t say how many.

Based on the photo that was posted, this happened at an intersection. Bus was rumoured to have been tboned by semi.

Just awful situation. Used to live in Nipawin. Anyone from a small town with a junior team knows these kids are part of the community. Billets become their second families away from home. I can’t imagine the devastation and nervousness of the families who are waiting to hear more news of their loved ones.

Darren Opp, president of the Hawks, said a semi T-boned the Humboldt players’ bus.

“It’s a horrible accident, my God,” he said. “It’s very, very bad.”

Opp said the coaching staff and players from the Hawks are waiting to help.

“They are sitting in the church just waiting to hear any good news,” he said. “I’ve got 50 phone calls at least saying what do you want?

“There’s uncles and moms and dads waiting to hear whether their sons and nephews are OK.

“It’s terrible. It’s absolutely terrible.”

Myles Shumlanski, father of Broncos player Nick Shumlanski, said the crash happened at 4:45 p.m. He got a call from his son and they picked him up.

“It’s only a quarter-mile from our house,” he said.

“There are casualties and it’s very bad. We were at the scene helping,” Shumlanski said.

“It was a disaster,” he said. “We had a crane lifting the bus.”

Shumlanski said that his son is being flown to Saskatoon after receiving treatment at a hospital in Tisdale.

Some really dumb questions my the media.

How big was the accident? It was an accident between a bus and a semi - it was pretty big

@cedrworiz:
I've spoken to the president of the Humboldt Broncos: "I am in shock. This is small town. We have multiple athletes from Edmonton and Slave Lake and Airdrie and all over." #sjhl #saskatchewan #buscrash

@_chamilton:.
I’m here in Humboldt at the arena. Outside there are people huddled in groups, crying. Hundreds of people gathered at the arena. We’ll bring you the latest on this crash as soon as we know

Parker Tobin, goalie on the team. His mom.

clarketobin:
This is one of the hardest posts I have ever had to make. Parker is stable at the moment and being airlifted to Saskatoon hospital. Thank you all for your kind words and messages. Please continue to pray for his Humboldt family.
