That makes more sense. I thought you were hinting that maybe there might be some issue with Gaudreau that makes rolling the dice and moving him possibly a good option.
I agree we won't see the over-pay it would take to make it worth considering.
Gaudreau is the straw that stirs the drink here. He's one of the best players in the league at making everyone around him better. You build around players like this.

Patrick, Provorov, Konecny, 2018 1st, 2019 1st for Gaudreau.
Make it happen Tre.

Finally. Anything less and I’d be opposed.

I don't know. Nobody will ever deny what Gaudreau does on the ice but I do believe you can make the team better overall if the right deal came along.
All I'm saying is getting really bent out of shape and proverbially crapping down someone's neck over the idea of trading Gaudreau is too much. But I get it, I was there once.

Dougie Hamilton for Mark Stone
Who adds, Ottawa or Calgary? Or is it a fair deal straight up?

As I said, with a player this special it would need to be a ridiculous deal, so the chances of that happening are extremely slim.

Ferland is BETTER than we were thinking we were getting out of Brouwer.
He seems to be improving his scoring - his shot is damn good.
He is faster.
He plays with more grit.
He is tougher.
Ferland checks off a lot of what this team needs. He has also shown the ability to actually play on a top line with top-line players, and did so admirably.
I don't get everyone's take here. Ferland was injured, and didn't come back playing as well - but the whole team was crappy.
I get it if his contract is up and he is asking for way too much money. Otherwise, it is an absolute no-brainer to keep him, rather than selling high. Put him in a scoring line, and he will get you 20+ goals, and not be a liability, and when he isn't scoring he is doing a lot of other stuff out there. Remember when Stajan was hit? Who on this team stepped-up and fought Rousseau?
I hope the team finds another couple of Ferlands, rather than trading away the only one we have.

I haven’t checked recently but doesn’t dougie have the most goals in nhl for d men? Why the hell do we trade him?
Ottawa adds. And I’d say adds quite a lot

I think it is a fair deal but Hamilton has 3 years left on a affordable deal where Stone is a RFA that will likely command over $7M per.
The deal I hope happens is Nylander+1st for Dougie.
Flames get that right shot forward but he is only 22 so has a lot more runway and ceiling to be determined. I also want a pick in the top 90.
If Toronto wants that top pairing right shot as I think it will cost either Nylander or Marner.
I believe Nylander is also RFA this summer so I could see him being the player they rather move since Marner is cheap for another year.

There has to be something available with Toronto. there an up and coming team on the cusp.
Would people do Gio for Nylander + 2018 2nd & 2019 first unprotected?
Gio is undoubtedly the leader of the team but where has that gotten the Flames. if we can get Nylander and additional picks to go after other prospects/move up in drafts i'm all for it.
toronto gets a stud #1 D man and we get rid of the risk of that contract turning sour

I do that deal all day.
I don’t see a 60pt 22 year old + picks being the price for a 35 year old Dman even though Gio is still elite.
Flames maybe take a step back but the core looks a lot nicer long term if they could nab a player like Nylander without giving up Dougie

Are you OK watching him win a cup in TO, because that probably happens.

If we get Nylander and those picks I don't care. It seems we aren't close to winning one here which needs to be the focus.

I think a player like Gio would put leafs in full championship consideration. I think they would look hard at a deal like that.
Add a LW prospect like Shinkaruk/Poirier if needed

Nylander + 1st or Marner +2nd for Hamilton or one of the straight up for Gio, I am on board with. I think that would be hard to swallow for leafs fans though.
I don't think we could get more than one straight up for Gio, just because of age. The only benefit of gio is that you know his contract won't be higher than 6.75, whereas it could be for marner or nylander.

I think we can get Stone without including Hamilton, as he's absolutely one of the few players you don't even blink at when including the 2019 1st round pick. Prospects + the 1st in 19 could do it.

I hate to say it but I’d trade that first for Stone all day everyday. Picking him up without giving up a roster player and then some work on the bottom six makes the Flames a much better team.

We trade Dougie if we think he will not learn to be a hard D to play against in his zone.
Ottawa adds Karlsson and removes Stone?
I haven’t read this thread.
Has anyone proposed Hamilton for Karlsson? If they expect he isn’t returning, they need a d man.

The Flames won't make a deal that makes them worse next season because picks are included. Tre likely enjoys being an NHL GM

Wouldn't you want to see how some of the young d men look before trading hamilton?
Because if he goes, even if its for someone like nylander (Toronto adding a 1st there is crazy too), ya the offense is improved but the defense becomes a potential tire fire
I think if hamilton is moved its not until at least 1-2 of the young d prospects the flames have, which looks like a solid group with 2 potential blue chippers, show they can play top 4 minutes
