He's at the top of my list.

Wasn't the rumor at the time that Darryl wanted to do exactly that but instead they showed Darryl the door?

I think when they brought Feaster in Darryl had one foot out the door.

During the 1st intermission of today's game, Francis said that he was able to talk to Treliving for a few minutes earlier today. Says Treliving is concerned about the emotional engagement of the team. Says Flames needs more of an identity, be harder to play against, and be mentally tougher. Might be more changes than he thought because of the way the team collapsed. Denies there is a character issue with the team.
Treliving doesn't talk about the coaching staff's future but says he thinks GG is a very good coach when asked about him. But Francis follows up by saying he would be surprised if GG survived this.
To me Darryl Sutter sounds exactly like the type of guy who checks all the boxes that Treliving is talking about...I'm glad he identified the identity/emotion as the main issue.

Question is, why would Sutter come back to the team that Jettisoned him the first time around?

Maybe Sutter wouldn't want to come back because of that but I think if he did, it would be because of unfinished business + close to home/familiarity + he likes the Flames. I remember after the Flames eliminated LA from playoff contention in 2015 he said he was rooting for them in the playoffs. Has praised our players like Monahan and Backlund.
I think he would actually be my top choice but yeah, we don't know if he's interested in returning.

Darryl wanted to fire his brother and go back to coaching. Instead he was let go.

An opportunity to bring an underachieving team back to a level of respectability?

Another thing is he was fired as a GM and not a head coach. But even if he was that doesn't mean he wouldn't consider coming back. Look at Carlyle and Anaheim.

Another name that intrigues me is Paul MacLean. I like the offensive tempo his teams bring. Even if he doesn't get the head coach gig I think he would be an excellent choice to run the PP which he did for the Wings in their hay day and more recently with Anaheim.

The Stache!! he could open up a sleuthing agency with that thing too. Him and his Doppelganger.

I think the assistant hires are just as important. The Jerrard and Cameron hiring a were very uninspiring from the outset.
I really want Darryl to be head coach cause I think he will instill the mental toughness required for this team but I'd also like to see a tactical hockey mind as his assistant. I think John Stevens really complimented Darryl well and someone similar would be required here. Not sure who that would be though.

Interesting coach, huge pedigree with the Wings and their championships, won the Adams with Ottawa and was still an assistant up until last year in Anaheim.
Something just seems wrong that this guy can't keep a job with all the winning he's been doing.

Well for starters, Feaster traded for Butler about 6 months after Darryl was fired, and then it wasn't until much later the following season that Butler saw top pairing minutes.

Interesting that Tre thinks he might need more changes than he thought. Wonder if before it was just a coaching change and now it might involve players ? Or was it players and now he is also thinking coaching change? Could also mean big changes player wise. Going to be a big off season for Tre. I would have to think that if he can't get the flames to playoffs next year he is gone.

I'd take anything Francis says with the biggest grain of salt you can find.
That being said I have no doubt Treliving said they have a good coach. He's not going to give Francis anything to run with.
I do hope Francis is right this once. At least about the coaching. Not so much re-signing Versteeg (Eric's idea, not something Treliving conveyed).

Much higher chance of Sutter coaching the Oilers than the Flames. Things weren't rosy near the end of Sutter's tenure as GM and I simply don't know if either party would be interested in a reunion.

I have a very good source that Gulutzan will be relieved of his duties as early as Monday morning.
Mods, feel free to PM me for info on the source.
