just call Future Shop or Best Buy every morning - they should be getting regular shipments.
Nintendo was smart and actually made TONS of wiis, not 10 like Sony decided to do with their PS3....

It's not stupid on Sony's part at all. If history is any indication, Sony is doing the right thing. Their first generation of PS2's were crappy and copped out after 1-2 years of use. Why market a bunch of buggy first-gen machines and have a plethora of dissatisfied customers soon afterwards? Honestly, I would not buy a new system the day of its release. Simply because they need about a year to sort out user-found bugs and upgrade the model itself.
However, if Nintendo is fully confident in their machine, then that's their marketing strategy. I guess we'll see if it works!

Good to know. I'll be checking daily, but if they put them out in the morning I'll be out of luck as I am not camping out outside.

That's one of the reasons why I waited a year to get a 360. I knew that there was a good chance I would get a lemon if I got one shortly after it was released.

I usually wait on the new systems due to the reasons mentioned above. However, I've had quite a few first gen Nintendo systems and have had absolutely no problems with them whatsoever. Very reliable.
Red, I think that you should be able to pick one up if you keep tabs with the likes of EB, FS, and BB. Calling them to find out when they will receive shipments is a must. I did that and managed to walk in at opening time, without lining up outside, and only waited about 5 minutes at customer service to get one. You really will have to go as early as possible though if you want to have any chance, as obvious as that sounds.
Good luck! I test drove it for my kids (!) and it's a ton of fun....

I think part of Sony's marketing strategy is to limit the amount of supply to create an increase in demand for their product.
With the Wii taking the opposite approach I don't know how good of a strategy that truely is.
I haven't tried the Wii yet, gonna head over a friend's place today to give it a shot. I like the idea that it keeps you active as opposd to sitting on your ass and getting fat while playing it (well not me getting fat I'm a rake of a beast).

I got my Wii Friday afternoon at 4pm. Shipments seem to come sporadic and at all times of the day.
I'll say one thing - be prepared to run like the wind once you hear of something in. This shipment of 3 sold out in 10 minutes flat. The above method of confirming stock's in for a day and then lining up is probably the best overall.
Now to find another wiimote....

An evern smarter strategy would be to release a functioning machine in the first place. Too much common sense, I suppose.

How many times did Sony delay their PS3 launch before finally releasing it? Then, the reason why stock is even worse that it was supposed to be was defects in something like 20% of their machines??
Not exactly the best way to jump into the market, but Sony had to rush to not miss Holiday '06.
Not saying Nintendo Wiis are all perfect, but Nintendo had a much more stable inventory, and seems to have their crap together a bit more than Sony.
Also, I'm not sure if you need to line up for a wii - I got mine on the Tues after launch day at around 11:30.

I got mine on bestbuy.ca. I usually check out redflagdeals.com and you can find out when bestbuy will release another bunch of units online. 125 went on sale at 8am last Friday and they were sold out in 5 minutes. If you have an account and are already signed in you should have no problem getting a unit if you hit the checkout right after the online stock is refreshed.
I'm still looking for another remote too, so if anyone sees them available in town let us all know.

Actually one of the major delays is due to the Blu-ray drive in it. They couldn't get enough of the laser diode needed for the drive. The demand for PS3s is solely based on trying to re-sell them for a profit on eBay.
People actually seem to WANT to buy the Wii. I haven't bought a gaming system since SNES and I'm getting a Wii as soon as I can find one in Future Shop.
Best Buy in Northill had 3 this afternoon, but no accessories and just a few games. Unfortunately I've got $450 in FS gift cards that have been allocated to purchasing a Wii so I didn't buy them.

Kermit, you're officially in my bad books. If I knew how I'd be giving you another one of those red sqares by your name right about now :-)
Next time buy it and I'll give you your cash back and maybe even a tip.
