Not sure what this has to do with the topic but while an off wing shot has a more centred shot on a one timer an on wing has a better angle at the short side (since the object is to put it where the goalie isn’t).

Moreover GG does not insist on RH/LH for forwards. It’s more about defence pairings, and it has nothing to do with the offensive zone - it’s about taking the puck off of the boards in the D zone and transitioning.

All season you have been telling us that Brouwer plays on the pp because he is a right shot and no one else can full in.
Now you are saying that it doesn't matter to GG.

Of course we never see Hamilton and Gio switch while in the offensive end either. Further to that, is any player on the flames on his off side on the pp? Nope. So there goes that theory.

Its almost as if you blindly defend GG regardless of context. The guy can simply do no wrong.

This fanbase drives me nuts sometimes with the old school dead puck thinking. No wonder why this organization has been so mediocre for decades. This is the team we deserve because it's the team this fanbase wants, all character, all truculence and no talent. You'd think we'd be screaming for more goal scoring because we're a bottom 5 team in goals. But no, we've got people demanding more truculence because Glass was the one who had to fight Lucic for 1 game out of 82.
Truculence has nothing to do with taking dumb penalties.

It kind of does if those dumb penalties are a result of being over-aggressive in trying to be truculent. We are #2 in team fighting majors in the NHL, and #2 in roughing minors - I would argue those would be the two penalties most related to over-truculence.

How ironic that we rank high in fighting majors but seem to lose every fight that we're dragged into. Other teams obviously know our weakness and have exploited it.

Team toughness (or lack thereof) is a character issue. Character issues can't be fixed and must be traded away. Smith knows this when he said after post-game it was "sad" that a non-regular roster player like Glass had to answer the bell and that "the team needed" more player like him. Needing more players like him = getting rid of players with less heart that abound on the team.

And fighting has nothing to do truculence? This team has no problem being physical or dropping the gloves and sticking up for eachother. Truculence has nothing to do with winning games as evidenced by the Golden Knights who have the fewest fights in the league and are 3-0 vs us.

They dominated us with their speed and skill, not their penchant for belligerence. If this fanbase ever wants to start changing things around from our 30 years of incredible mediocrity and disappointment, people need to start thinking differently or outside the box instead of clamoring for the same crap every year.

Forget Truculence, I just want the Flames players to show a little pride.

How is that any different then the GG haters who think he can do nothing right? Sadly, this place is like a bubble where everyone just watches this team and picks apart every little thing about the team and coach when in reality, every team has the same issues and has periods where they're mentally weak, periods where they come out flat and periods where they lose against teams they shouldn't. This is not exclusive to just the Calgary Flames or we'd be in the basement with the Sabres.

Does anyone here watch every practice? These guys practice the PP on a daily basis and they know exactly what doesn't work. Just because a player is on his off side doesn't mean he's going to have a great one timer. Accuracy is probably the most important aspect of a one timer and Dougie misses the net more than anyone. This is a team that was not built with the proper weapons at its disposal, that's why they've struggled to score in all situations.

on the Flames the intersection of top-5 TOI and top 5 # of hits is no one.

On Vegas 3 out of 5 of the top TOI guys are in the top 5 hitters... McNabb, Engelland and Miller.

Vegas almost always has an aggressive player on the ice.

That is the reason that Engelland was getting more ice time than Hamilton when Engelland was a Flame,

On Nashville their #1 TOI guy, Subban is their #5 hitter. Incredibly hard to play against.

On the Jets Byfuglien #3 TOI and #2 hitter.

Boston Chara #1 TOI #4 hitter

Tampa Hedman #1 TOI #1 hitter Strahlman #2 TOI #6 hitter

Washington Orlov, Ovechin and Orpik in the top 5 on both lists.

maybe it is a coincidence but the top 6 teams all have a meaner player with significant ice presence.

The closes the Flames have is Stone The #5 D-man 8th in TOI and #6 hitter

You must have me confused with someone else. I never said that about Brouwer. I said he filled in for Tkachuk and/it Ferland when they went out and that was a net front role.

I’ve seem Gio and Hamilton switch.

My comment had nothing to do with GG other than correcting your misconceptions about his RH/LH choices (hint again, it has nothing to do with forwards). My comment had to do with what actually happens on ice. One timers can be effective “on wing”. Watch Hamilton go short side.

Start @ 1:00. Bobrovski didn't look worried that the Neanderthal was in the area.

I am pretty sure you said that many times. Brouwer on the PP is the capital sin of GG and you are clearly his biggest apologist here.

As for Gio and Hamilton switching, yes they may have switched a couple times in 2 years during a broken play. Point being, they should switch permanently on the PP, most teams do it. The Flames do not deploy their D or F on off side on the PP.

And you are not correcting my misconception, there is no misconception to correct.

Nope, I do not associate truculence with fighting.

I associate truculence with players like Gary Roberts, like Jarome Iginla, Giordano, Tkachuk, players who are tough as nails but not goons or just fighters, players who can take care of themselves. They don't need their teammates to come running to their defense as they will take care of business by themselves. Their reputation precedes them and opposing players know not to mess with them.

The Flames don't have enough of those type of players. I don't consider someone like Hamilton as possessing a lot of truculence. I think he plays soft and as a double whammy, he also takes dumb penalties.
