I think the Flames are a unique team...they are very good in some areas and terrible in others.
High end RWer would make a massive difference IMO

13 games 3 goals 5 assists => .61 pts/game
People are complaining about Backlund's new contract due to "underpeforming offensive numbers", though he's still at .53 pts/game. How can you rationalize giving 2+ more million per year for a winger with barely better offensive numbers?

Haha, what the heck is this? You can't just remove 6 goals from a player and then call him a .61 guy.

You also can’t just use a 15 game streak and claim he isn’t. He has consistently been a .6-.65 player his entire career.

Okay, so who do you think the Flames should go after at RW this summer?
It's free agency. There are only handful of high-quality players available, and you'll have to overpay to get one. That's the problem with needing to patch huge holes in your roster with UFAs.

Not sure committing too much money to a UFA is the way to go.
They need to improve their forward depth by trading a Dman for one and hope that one of Andersson, Valimaki, Kylington is ready to take the next step

They really should do both if they can. Forward group really needs a lot of help.

Andersson already looks great, imo.

I'd like to see Evander Kane signed, A d-man traded for another solid scorer and most importantly a new coaching staff and I'll think we'll be a serious threat next season.

I agree.
Just for example:
Brodie for Atkinson/Hoffman or something comparable
Sign Kane
Gaudreau - Monahan - Kane
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Bennett - Jankowski - Atkinson/Hoffman
Build the 4th line from Ferland, Shore, Lazar, Hathaway, Brouwer, Dube, Hrivic, Stewart, etc
Giordano - Hamilton
Hamonic - Stone
Kulak - Andersson
Smith
Rittich
A lot more potent IMO.

The Flames window is now though. Either we're going for it or we should be trading most of our assets to try and rebuild this thing quick. I think the team underachieved big time this year though. I could be wrong but it wouldn't surprise me to see this team in the playoffs next year. If we can add a top 6 forward, have a prospect or two make the jump, make a bottom 6 UFA signing, and get a new coach, I could see this team playing how we all hoped and expected. If they repeat what they did this year then I'd seriously consider making some big moves and trying to rebuild this thing while we still have some very valuable assets. Cut your losses really because if this core can't get it done then let's start shipping them out and maximizing their value. With the assets we have you could have a very young and exciting team in a short span. I can't see ownership going that route though so hopefully they make the right tweaks this off season and get things going in the right direction again.

I agree in part but I think there are a couple more deals that could be made. Ferland probably has the most value he will in his career, I'm sure a team would over pay for him now. I thought no it might be time to move on from Frolik too, if a team is willing to give up a lot for him but not just for the sake of trading him.

Ottawa is cheap. Ferland and Brouwer for Hoffman and that God awful Bobo Ryan contract.

I agree with everything except the ownership part. I doubt they care about the tactics of the GM.

You know what bad organizatios do? Define "windows" incorrectly.
You know what opens a window? Winning something worthwhile.
No window is open after you just get swept in the 1st round of the playoffs. Saying the Flames' "window is now" is just shortsighted silliness.
Treliving made a huge mistake in trading away picks for Hamonic. I love Hamonic, and am glad he's a Flame - but I can still hate the price paid. It was bad management, and I'm sure Tree has learned this.

I told myself he learned after Mason Raymond. After Troy Brouwer. After Paul Byron.
I'm not convinced Treliving has learned anything about building a winning team and am seriously starting to question his ability to judge talent and value.

To take Ryan change Hoffman to Stone to make it fair, even then I doubt Burke would sign off on taking Bobby (not intense) Ryan

Saying the Flames “window” is open does come across as homerish. I guess the organization is trying to build a competitive team around the current core but unless the window refers to playoff appearances, this team still has miles to go.

I think I know where Karlsson is going to end up. Vancouver. They'll pay him. And they'll pay that high 1st to get him.

The window is the prime years of Monahan, Gaudreau, Hamilton, and Tkachuk.
4 potentially elite players on great contracts signed while they are improving (Tre magic to come with Tkachuks), with money to spend to fill out the rest of the roster. That’s a window to me. It’s has been a successful strategy in the cap era.
