That's interesting because an emergency recall specifies which player the person was called up to replace. So who was he actually called up to potentially replace?

I think it would have to be someone we aren't already aware of.

Excited to see him play again (if he indeed ends up playing). He looked so ready at the start of the year, and in his limited time in the NHL thus far, I think he has played fairly decent.

As I said before, adding Kylington to the core will go a long way into making the Flames a faster team.

He’s here and only able to play if someone can’t, as they otherwise couldn’t dress enough defensemen.
So no one needs to be a game time decision, but they call him up in case something happened today, as otherwise it would have been too late.

Bart is in for Hamonic but they still then need another D for a complete roster.

Kylington returned to Stockton today. I assume Hamonic is back in on Tuesday. Although Kylington being recalled prior to that game is also an option.

This is likely one reason for the Kylington call-up on Saturday. Depending on the timing of Stone's wife going into labour, he might not have been available.

The AHL Transactions page shows Kylington being recalled again today after being recalled and returned on Saturday (I doubt he ever left the team). He'll probably be yo-yoing between Calgary and Stockton (on paper, at least) for the rest of the season.

But if there is/was a potential that a regular (Stone?) may not play, what's the point of keeping him physically in Stockton. The Flames would still end up dressing only 5D for the game.

I thought the whole point of the emergency recall was to insert him into the line-up if there are any last-minute injuries/family issues.

He is in Calgary. He practiced with the team today in Stone's place.

Now I think that Kylington's call-up is by design. The Flames know that Stone will not be available sometime this week with the birth of his child, so calling in Kylington to be a stand-by.
