But patience right. Cant fire the coach because we need continuity. Cant trade anyone because all our players seem untouchable to CPers. Cant trade Gio because he is the leader and backbone of this spineless, sinking ship. Cant trade Hamilton because he is good. Cant trade Brodie because his value is low right now. Cant trade Bennett because it would be admitting he is a bust.
The cherry on this crap sandwich that Treliving has cooked up this season will be when the Flames 1st rounder wins the lottery. Garth Snow should personally thank Brad Treliving, Brian Burke, and the rest of the Flames organization when he is at the podium selecting Dhalin 1st overall.
Patience, right boys?

Snow might get fired before the draft due to his own ship wreck. Jay Feaster at the podium thanking the flames.

Letting Tavares get to free agency warrants a pink slip on it's own. As much as the Flames season has been a disaster the Islanders is worse as they are losing their franchise player. The only thing they have left available to them is to recoup some picks from dealing his rights to a team before free agency.

Last year I was on board with the surging Flames and placed wagers in Vegas on them doing well in the playoffs.
Not this year.

The expected plus minus is a product of expected goals for and against based on shot metrics like attempts, and the region they come in (scoring chances). Players that give up more than they generate have an expected differential which is essentially a five on five expected plus minus.
It's a proxy that has done well to identify what players had seasons where everything went right or everything went wrong, a good add to evaluations.

Man I get tired of this.
You're allowed to renew your tickets, stop watching the games on tv, move to Iowa ... up to you.
But if I'm an owner, president, Burke, the PR guy, ... I insist you divorce the current administration from the history of the team. What's the point of dragging that weight around when you have enough problems in the now to deal with.
This team was taken down to the studs in 2013 with the Iginla trade, they hired the current GM in 2014 and now they have two playoff births within four years of a rebuild. It's not where they thought they'd be this year, it gives pause, and they need a plan but enough of sins of the past on the shoulders of the now crap.

Unless the 1st turns out to be top 5 or better, then people need to move on. The Flames have enough young pieces below 25. Basically half the forward group. This isnt an old aged core.

It's almost like there is some constant in the organization other than the gm or president that has stewarded this team to be bad regardless.of the financial picture of the league.
Some unseen force.

the one thing I take issue with is the argument that the Flames have been uniquely incompetent since their glory days. I'm looking at a list of all NHL teams and at least half of them haven't accomplished jack all in the past two decades either.
yeah I wish my hometown team had more cups, presidents trophies, division banners, whatever, but I don't get upset about it because sports leagues where every fan base but one ends the year in disappointment is just a bad thing to rely on for consistent joy. look around not just in the NHL but in other leagues at cities that have been "cursed" to exist without championship wins and get a bit of perspective on what you're angry about.

I think it's because you're a fan of this team. It's clear the hockey gods hate you specifically.

Given the injuries I'm not sure we should care too much about what happens in the final games. The line-up is terrible. The effort is there. The talent isn't.
So not sure why anyone would be getting so twisted up about it.
Similarly I'm not going to lose sleep over what lottery ball gets pulled. Would you rather have the Islanders pick first overall or the Oilers? Or the Canucks?

As bad as the optics would be of the Islanders picking 1st with the Flames pick I would take that over the Oilers or Canucks getting Dahlin.

Well the Oilers are going to pass us in the standings before the end of the year after having a 15+pt lead on them a month ago. Nothing to get upset about I guess.
Islanders get first overall who cares right. We trade a pick that turns into a franchise Dman and 2 2nds for a good team guy #4D.
If that Islanders pick becomes Dahlen that is a massive loss for the organization lotto luck or not.
Feel free to discount it like it is nothing though but I understand fully why people are getting twisted up over it. This season has been a complete disaster and I wouldn’t be shocked if Burkie dusts off his old classic 18 wheeler reference.

Exactly this.
The one thing that is good about this administration is that they learn from their mistakes that they made.
Some of their key mistakes:
Brouwer signing on July 1st - Tre comes out and say's he is going to stay away from over paying on July 1st (no big contracts last year).
2 Headed Monster - Tre goes out and finds a number 1 goalie.
Coach Bob - a slave driver on the players, found a players coach.
We'll see what happens with coaching now but my best guess is that they jumped from each extreme. I'd guess that Glen is gone and are going to find someone who has a middle ground of the spectrum.
We should be happy right now we at least have a team that can win trades and sign great valued contracts. It's just a matter of a couple more pieces and having everything fall together.

Being patient is one thing.
Constantly having to correct mistakes is another. That amounts to one step forward and one step back...not in the best interests of any organization.
