Makes sense, you know what you have with Rittich at the NHL level, might as well get a good look at Gillies.

Wonder if this will be a showcase for Gillies for a deal to be made during the summer. Odd that Rittich would be sent down.

Also should mean the Flames are down to 1 regular recall for the rest of the season.

Gonna run Gillies for the rest of the year then. See what they have.

If we look at the backups honestly, neither looked ready to take the reigns. I suspect one of them is on the move this summer.

They seem so similar to me. Good potential, some really good stretches, but in the end still too inconsistent for the NHL. I'm hoping one of them will prove me wrong, but I'm not sold on either Gillies or Rittich as a long-term solution.

Barring any offseason trades it should be an interesting competition next fall between Rittich and Gillies for the backup job.

Stockton is still trying to make the AHL playoffs. Better for Rittich to be playing there than sitting in the press box here.

Who would the Flames use the last call-up on?

Kylington? Poirier? Klimchuk? Others?

Also with Gaudreau taking a leave of absence, can we make an "emergency call-up" in place of him?

Foo maybe. Just hit the 20 goal mark the other night. He has been very good the 2nd half of the season.

No the Flames can't emergency recall a forward unless they can't dress 12 forwards for a game. Unless there are unannounced injuries I believe they have 12 available tonight.

With all the injuries couldn't they also do several more emergency recalls?

Interesting. Is this a move where the team feels Rittich gives the farm team the best chance to win?

Makes sense. Let Rittich try to make a playoff run in Stockton and give Gillies a better look at the NHL level.

I'd also like to see Foo called up -- give him an opportunity given his recent play and to validate his decision to sign with Calgary last summer.

until I read the part about Rittich going to Stockton, I thought he'd be replacing Gaudreau on the top line. At this stage it couldn't hurt.

With Monny and Johnny out he'd look awfully lonely out there.

We would actually need to trip two defencemen to get an emergency recall on D.

We need to figure out which guy deserves a 1 way deal next fall and who is our future. Rittich has shown flashes. Gillies out played him though overall when Smith was hurt even with his 2 big blunders. Which guy could we trade away realistically as well
