Ha, this place will come unglued if that's true. One of the few things that you'll get a consensus decision about here is that Glen and staff need to move on.

Then you can count on thousands of fans not being at the dome and not tuning in next year as well.

I think Backlund will bounce back next year.
Many players have a drop off in their game for a while after signing a big contract. Happens all the time.

He's already had two shots at it, and has failed both times. This team's window to win is right now. Wasting another season of our top young talent under this coaching staff would be a mistake of epic proportions for this franchise.

2 weeks to go. Disappointing that the only thing to count down is the remainder of the coach’s tenure

Then Tre and GG get bounced if they struggle next year. At least that’s my assumption....maybe ownership are more patient than most. They’re lucky to have fans who support and drop cash no matter what. We really do have loyal fans here.....at least 19 thousand of them.

Umm. Not that short. It's been two years of Gulutzan hockey and nobody will forget them for a long time as this has been Don Hay/Greg Gilbert bad as paying fans have quite the dislike for the on ice product.

It is better for management to step in and take some action (like relieve the coach of his duties now) or just sit back and watch the ship sink for the rest of the year? I feel like just letting this fester for another few weeks is not good for the team.

I think that the flames will part ways withGG for the same reasons they parted ways with Hartley - because they would likely fire GG early next season if they struggle, so why not just do it now.
Also, the way the team has played at home and most recent 10games or so when the team was still in the mix.
It seems that GG will not get them to the next level.
I am also starting to wonder if it is time to part ways with Brian Burke, but I am not really sure what he does. I just feel his views on players are likely not modern

Exactly what I said too. I have heard nothing that indicates BT has given up on GG, quite the opposite actually according to snippets I have heard from radio talk media. I will be pleasantly surprised if GG is not back next year.

Na, he(GG) is gone, count on it. Too many good coaches will be available, I think they were saying 8 or 9 coaches could go at the end of the season.

I just hope he is gone and they don't start moving players to accommodate him. We dont need another Marc Savard/Greg Gilbert situation.

With a top tier NHL coach, this team is a playoff team, I can't be convinced otherwise.
Treliving has made several errors, sure (Brouwer, 3-goalies, maybe Bennett), but every GM makes mistakes... the biggest one, though (and a head scratcher from the outset) was hiring GG.
And, just as mind boggling ... Why is GG still coaching the team?!?!?!
I get that it's NOT an ideal time to find a new coach, but my goodness, it's been obvious for quite some time that GG is NOT the guy, moving forward... why not put in an interim guy (like Conroy, maybe) and hope for a hot streak??
At the very least, why not 3 games ago when it was clear the team needed to pretty much run the table to get in?!?!... why roll over and play dead if you're gonna let the coach go in the off-season, anyway?!?!
I just don't understand why GG is still here, and that's what worries me most about BT.
|
Exactly. No GM is perfect and I think Treliving has made far more good moves than bad moves but if GG is still here next year that will definitely make me question him. At the end of the day we don't have all the facts when it comes to decisions so its easy to criticize doing this or not doing that but I think most people can agree its time for a new coach. I still think this team has a lot of good pieces and can be right back in the playoffs next year. Hopefully they don't panic and make smart decisions.

I still don't think GG was even in the original top 3 he wanted and Treliving was grasping at straws after being spurned by other available coaches. When you look at the time line of coaches being hired by other teams and rumours of which ones were interviewed, it seems like the Flames didn't get one of the original coaches they wanted.
Maybe the Canucks have another assistant coach we can hire this time.

Anyone with a memory short enough to forget this season, shouldn’t be allowed out unsupervised.

I think the reason you haven’t heard anything from the media is because that’s the way BT does business. There is no question the discussion would be going on, and likely the decision is already made to remove GG. But there is also no way he would say anything substantive about it at this point.
As for the media, I think they just kind of feel that they shouldn’t be the ones shovelling dirt on a coaches proverbial grave. Especially the guys on 960, they try to avoid throwing people under the bus preemptively. As well, they are trying to wait until the season is done to get into the changes that are surely coming.
And even at that, Pinder says some things, but you can tell he is trying not to be too critical. Even a guy like Steinberg is now admitting that GG may not be back, so even he is seeing it is getting quite likely.
I would be absolutely stunned if GG isn’t gone. Hey, every now and then I get stunned, but not often.

I want Gulutzan gone right now because I want to be appeased as a fan. Seriously. If you can't bring me winning hockey, at least give me a meaningless gesture that gives me what I want to hear.
I also don't want to worry about Gulutzan possibly being back next year.
