Lol at this point does it even matter? Brouwer, Glass are not the reason this team stinks at this juncture of the season. This team stinks because it is lacking top end RW talent and a system that is even remotely functional.

I've said this before - I don't think this team is any better or worse this season with Stone or Hamonic in the 4D slot. That's not good enough for what BT gave up to get him. He's not a player that moves the needle and the Flames have seriously mortgaged the future for him.
I'm not going to write off BT yet as he's done some great things here as well, but he sure as heck better pull the pin on this lame duck staff (which was his hire). He also better grow some cajones and start pursuing some front end talent instead of bargain hunting on guys like Brouwer, Raymond etc.

I was given free tickets to the game and took the little one. Why not, I don't get to go very often.
Sooo Freakin boring!! We left at the start of the 3rd. 3 goals on 11 shots at that point. Nice work boys!!
Can't wait for this season to be over. I am worried not much will change next year. Same Brouwer, same lack lustre starts and effort. No hitting, no toughness (physical and mental) same scoring problems, still no real plan between the pipes.
The Ducks didn't even engage. They just waited for the Flames to screw up. Pathetic D on the SH goal. Spin o Rama goal #2, Monahan stops skating and watching them score on #3. Gibson had maybe 4 saves that mattered. ~$100MM CAD in annual salary and the Flames are out for a recreation skate on a Thursday night.
The snow can't melt soon enough to get out on the bike.

The rebuild was sped up / ended? too soon probably forced by ownership. But....
Treliving hired a lousy coaching staff of Almost Eakins quality and got over focused on acquiring Hamonic, brought the circus to town in an over the hill Jagr, another poor choice for Goalie in Smith who is Jekyl and Hyde in net. The whole rebuild was rushed and heightened expectations forced onto too few great players. Now the team is need of psychological help and we have NO pics this summer.
Fire the whole bunch from Burke down. Give Conway the GM hat and start again from scratch. Time for a new miniature rebuild

Smith has been a very good goalie, it was a great acquisition and most fans and the media has agreed to that. In fact most would say he has been our MVP, save the last few games. Question: Who would you have acquired instead?

I know - we're in such a tough spot for goaltending AGAIN this off-season. Rittich/Gillies didn't exactly show they can handle 35-40 starts this year so going in with Smith and one of them as a back-up is far too risky given Smith's end of season play, age, and injury history.
So we'll probably have to get a 1B to play with Smith...who'll then bump our up-coming goalies down a level (AHL/ECHL) and limit their NHL experience next season...leaving us in a similar bind the next off-season with a 1B and unproven goalies at the NHL level.

Based off the poll in the off-season (after Bishop was traded), the top 3 choices were Fleury (35.04%), Raanta (12.48%), and Grubauer (11.68%)...all of which have a much better save percentage than Smith this year and could have been part of a longer-term solution.

The Flames will be moving one of Gillies or Rittich this off season. They just have to, especially if the play is to get that 1B. And I really think it is. Parsons should get the majority of the starts in Stockton along with whoever survives the cut (let's say Rittich). Up here, Smith gets half the starts and they pay probably an equal amount $4.25+ a year for someone like Lehner, Raanta, Hutton, etc.

Quality experienced backup Is worth nothing if you refuse to start him. GG overplayed Smith. So many people on this board predicted Smith getting injured or burnt if he was not given more rest. Rittich was great when he played only back-to-backs, his play offered our coach the luxury of resting his starter a bit more, but he never did that. And then after the Isles game, he was all of a sudden stating how he planned to play Rittich more anyway. Well, a bit late i guess. And when the "Gillies-tryout" was finally over and Rittich followed with wins in Buffalo And Ottawa, guess what, GG just had to rush Smith back and play him no matter what at the most crucial time of the season. Smith Is 1-5-0 since "healthy". And he Is going to start everyday single reamining game of the season so he would get the amount of games he demanded before the season. Because players coach, because if we react to something and make a change, we are undermining our system. And thats worse then a joke of a season.

Going to be interesting to see how these next two weeks go.
Massive disappointment now, highlighted by a huge exclamation mark since the end of the first period vs the Sharks on how much this team has emphatically finally had enough of trying to listen to the coach, after seeing, or not seeing, his ability to push them to another level in good times and in bad.
With things more or less officially done, do you really play 7 games with that attitude towards the coach continuing? I’m sure the organization wants to treat the coach departure with class and due sensitivity, but it could get really ugly because the last 2.5 games, which have desperately meant something, have been real ugly already.

I don't think the Flames should be spending assets or cap space on another goalie. Our goaltending is fine. Flames need forwards!

There's no way around it in my mind. The entire coaching staff needs to go. All of them. Too many instances where we are left scratching our heads. Pathetic powerplay, horrible line matching at times, I dont get the sense that this is Gulutzan's team.
We were supposed to challenge for the division lead and where we are now is an absolute embarrassment.
I fully expect our first round pick to be a top 3 pick that has an impact for the Islanders. Just so disappointing all around.
Oh and Stajan and Brouwer have to go. Dont care how we get rid of Brouwer he's gotta go.

I would be surprised if any goalie that was available last summer could do any better than Smith in the environment that existed on the ice. Smith did everything he could to win games and the rest of the team did not do their share. Swap Fleury and Smith and I'm sure the Pacific standings would be the exact same as they are now.
If we want a 1a and 1b situation in Calgary next year I would look at Cam Ward for a year or two. I was hoping that Ward might be a pissibility for the start of this past season but it didn't happen. He is old and not as good as he once was but with Smith/Ward doing a roughly 50/30 dplit I think it would be a solid tandem. Of course that still leaves the Flames in a bad situation in 2 or 3 years with no young starter. I wonder if Vegas would be willing to move Subban. I like that kid and I think he could develop into a good #1.

They already had him In Elliot who played well enough for the team to get into playoffs , Oh and look Flyers look like they will make it with Elliot as their starter after missing last year . Hmm when was the last time Elliot missed the playoffs as a starter lol , And like I said Hextall a former goalie snapped him up fast for the Flyers , because he knew he was playing in front of an overrated defence here , year after year moving out goalies when it's been the defence all along. I knew the team was in trouble this year was flamed for my views on Smith and I was right . He had some good games this year but never showed up when it counted the most , his track record in Arizona proved he was a loser , and this team puts there hopes in him . It's seriously time to blow this whole thing up Only players I would not trade is Mono and Tkachuk I would even consider moving Gaudreau because he seems to dissapear when it matters most and building a team around a winger is not a great move anyhow.

Well this isn't necessarily true, the Flames still haven't fired Sigalet. Year after year of moving out goalies and he gets to stay for some reason.

It's quite possible the D corps is overrated, I won't deny that. I just think the Flames being loathe to fire the actual goalie coach might be contributing to that view. Has ANY goalie posted career stats under this guy's guidance?

Well, for me, the Flames most overrated defenseman is Dougie Hamilton. He might have the most goals of any NHL defenseman this year but I don't think he brings much else to the table. He is a pylon most nights, great photo bombs though.
Personally, I would move him out as I think at this point, he would bring back the most value.
Then put Brodie back up with Gio, and Andersson, Kulak, Hamonic, and Stone are enough to fill out the last two pairings.
