I still think he's hurt but he's a gamer. He came back to help this team win some hockey games. Sucks for Smitty that he couldn't carry the team on his back again but he's off and probably needs some work done on his groin/leg this summer. I wouldn't risk further injury by playing him anymore this season. Let Ritter take over the reigns and see if he can prove to be a effective backup for this team.

Smith has only played one good game since he came back...stole a game from the Oilers

The rest have been bad games although what games did the Flames really deserve to win?

What are you talking about? I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for another Archie's Double Digest post about how great our high danger shooting percentage was. We can still make the playoffs.

Statistics.

Glen.

We've got both.

Can't even say I was expecting a win. Thought I'd sit down and have a couple beers and at least enjoy a scrap-filled game, maybe glass would cave in bieksa or kesler's face. Didn't even get that, might as well have watched figure skating...

When have the Flames ever played that way? That would be my dream. Keep dreaming I guess...

Treliving; Burke pretty quiet right now. Yeah, yeah, I know, the Flames are always so respectful of their staff and almost always wait until the end of the season; then they do their exit interviews; then and only then do they make decisions; only after the season is complete they terminate coaches, general managers etc.

My question is "how is that working for you?" In my opinion, Treliving needs to fire the entire coaching staff immediately. This coaching staff deserves no respect, no respectful exit. Send a message to the players now, who have obviously quit on their coach. Burke and Treliving and some of the players can learn about their fates when the season ends. I don't mind Treliving sticking around and i'm "meh" on Burke.

Burke doesn't do much other than defend the team/players from the Eastern media vultures which I like.

Hard to blame/credit him with anything

BT has to pull the plug on the entire coaching staff and have one hell of a summer..

Burke is supposed to provide insight, experience, guidance, oversight, knowledge, wisdom .....etc.
The wisdom that has been provided to the management team by Brain Burke has resulted in the current mess. He should be removed and replaced.
If Ken King is involved in any aspect of the Hockey Operations decision making that led to this mess then he should also be removed/replaced.
The Coaching staff should be removed and replaced.
I am not sure how much independence and control Treliving actually had in the decision making ....
......so for some reason, I think maybe he should stay - not at all sure why.

Agree, Burke seems like a waste of space.

It's not about scoring, they just have to take lots of shots. You don't win the stats without the shots.

Most fans/media thought BT built a solid roster

players and coaches failed to live up to expectations...I don't think you fire BT right now. Good organizations don't fire their GM after every bad season.

I didn't think the Flames would win this game - Anaheim is hungry and always has the Flames' number, so this one doesn't sting. I thought the Flames played fairly well - at least effort-wise - I can't say that they weren't prepared.

They just don't generate enough offensively, and when they do, they just can't score. Then they forget how to play defence.

Ducks were good in limiting the Flames' chances tonight. They were also good at making their chances count. If I didn't see this happening an infuriating amount of times this season, I would say: "forget about this game and move on". This is the Flames' baseline - do a lot but get nothing done. I am sure that the Flames had the better advanced metrics. What I see is a team that flounders in their own end to catastrophic levels, and seemingly love to shoot pucks right at goalies or just miss the net altogether. I see a team that should be a dangerous team with their speed... but they play slow for most of the game.

What can you say at this point that hasn't been said for a long time now? Will continue watching how they wrap-up the season, and look forward to what should constitute an off-season full of intrigue and juicy rumors.

Yeah, that's all I am looking forward to. Pretty pathetic really, but it is what it is.

Have to say that Stajan has been a beast for a long time now on the 4th line. Lazar has been incredibly solid too, which is really nice to see. Loved Bennett's game tonight. Lots of players actually played well.

Something is so stinky with this team and needs a change in the biggest way. Quickest and easiest way to do that is a coaching change, and I can't imagine Treliving sitting on his hands and not making one. I don't think that the players are tuning out the coach or anything like that - I just think this is what the team is at this point.

Get a new coach. Tinker with the depth. Try to acquire a scoring RHS winger. That should breathe a tonne of new life into this team (and this board).

I don't think Ferland will fight anymore so someone has to be the policeman and Glass can at least keep up. I don't see them mailing it in but I do see a team full of players that lack confidence. The hustle and hitting was there and Anaheim had no pushback but once they scored first the knew they had Calgary.

I don't understand how other goalies can stop long shots but ours struggle. Rittich had one semi screened shot and it went in while Gibson was screened on several shots and seemed to stop all of them. Are othe goalies taught to look through screens better or differently.
