Seriously I know we’re depressed but this is a bit over the top.
4 “top 6” forwards and 3 “top 4” dmen is the constitution of most good teams in the league. It’s called the salary cap.
Are Smith’s numbers really bottom half? I actually don’t know. But I do know he was one of the team’s MVPs until the bye week and before his injury I’d say goaltending was a strength for the team.
The roster has some issues, including depth and a bonifide scoring RW, but let’s not get carried away. A lot of players had fantastic seasons.
In the West the Preds, Jets, Avs, Stars, Wild, Knights, Sharks and Ducks definitely have more than 7 combined top 6 forwards/top 4 dmen. Teams that have less are basement dwellers, Flames are in-between.
And with their final breath, the mighty Flames arose from the ashes of defeat. Ready to show their fans the hardened passion they crave in their hockey heroes of Calgary.
They lost, which sucks, but man I've never come out of a loss with more of a smile on my face than this one. Tonight was absolutely incredible and it was a privilege to spend time with Gaskal, Puppet Guy, Rinkrat, STeeLy, Dion, and especially Aeneas and calgaryboy. Truly an honour and a night I'll never forget, even with the loss.
Some things are bigger than hockey.

I did like all the fans leaving. That lower bowl was pretty empty. Wonder if management noticed? I hope so. Our beloved team is going very, very meekly into the might. Waiting to hear what the super duper coaches say about this game. Should be really enlightening.
The bright side. This gives KK and the Flames organization lots of time to work on their arena presentation. Maybe he can finally finish those renderings in MS paint.
