So say GG is eventually fired this spring, do you even trust Treliving to hire a better replacement?
If he has already gone on a limb to try and prove he is the smartest guy in the room with an unconventional hire I'm concerned he continues to push the same possession heavy agenda and/or doesn't prioritize the essence of character and leadership for the new coaching staff. The last thing we want is a GG 2.0 and have to spend another 2/3 years gouging our eyes out.

If Treliving has learned only one thing, I hope it's this. ANYTHING coming from the Canucks organization is junk. Do not sign/trade for/hire. It's all junk.

I'd make an exception for AV. Ex Canuck, sure, but has had more success since leaving. The stink is off.
Giordano because his contract is probably hard to trade at value.
Hamonic because we won't recoup the value we traded for him and his contract is worthwhile.
Mike smith because his contract is not tradable at value/there are really no other options in net.
Those are the only players we should be keeping. Everyone else should be hopefully, mercifully gone or back in a reduced role (backlund as 3C, Janko as a winger or 4C maybe as examples). However if they can fetch equal value in trade I say go nuts.

The same core players did have heart and soul and did care about games as recently as two seasons ago. GG has coached the love of the game out of them.
As terrible as it is to watch the players give up, this is why I lay the blame on his feet. Johnny was known as a clutch player who delievered in big games his entire life up until GG. The two seasons since he has looked damn timid half of the games he plays in.
If you believe that's all on johnny then you've never had a ####ty boss before.

Better get ready Brad to give them or else you'll be given them.

I truly hope this is just an attempt at maintaining a semblance of motivation in the face of insurmountable odds. The culture has to start somewhere!
That being said, if this is an indication of his summer plans then I hope he is packing up his office.
Yeah I’d prefer if the GM were publically as emotional as a fan. He should not only proclaim the season over but also say how certain players suck and that everything is terrible all the time.
Seriously? Who expects the GM to say anything else? What kind of loser mentality is that. Get a grip, we’d all be absolutely ripping the Oilers GM if he came out and said “yup we better pack it in.”

Silver lining if the Isles win the lotto, thats one less key player the Oilers have a shot at.
That's how I see it too. I honestly and truly hope the Isles win the lottery. Because that means the Canucks or Oilers didn't. The pick is gone. It's out of our hands, and nothing can change that. At the very least we can all hope/pray that it doesn't end up in with a Western team, in the Pacific division, or god forbid one of our rivals.
Honestly it going to the Isles (given the circumstances the Flames are in now), is the best case scenario.

I have to disagree just based on the fact that the player taken will be watched by flames fans over his entire career salivating at what could have been and that in my opinion is greater punishment than seeing a rival pick them up

He could be far more brash considering what a colossal failure this season, and the entire Gulutzan era has been. The time for cool and collected from your coach and GM expired when the team filled it's diapers after the bye week.
It's the "hopeful" and ho hum statements like this that trickle down through the team and leads to the flaccid and emotionless play we've enjoyed for the better part of two seasons.

People it sounds like want this
Spoiler!
Brad comes out on stage, he's wearing a leather jacket, and has sun glasses on.
Brad - "I'd like to start this press conference with a brief statement.
First of all, what a bunch of sucks am I right? I mean these guys are the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked. Personally after that game, I wanted to stride right into that room, pick up a chair and start crackin some skulls. Starting with that Jerk Coach.
I'd like to announce that I've shot former coach and all around jerk face Glenn Gulit . . whatever into the sun.
I also took the time to do a post game assessment with Dave Cameron, which basically means that I grabbed his underwear and pulled it over his head. The dufus wandered around screaming like a girl.
There will be changes people, I know winning, and this ain't it.
Ok I'll take questions now"
Reporter 1 - "Brad you stated at the start of the year . . . "
BT - "Shad up next"
Report - "Mr Treliving, TJ Brodie . . . ."
BT - "Eat me, all right that's all the time I have, I have to get back into the room and start cracking some skulls and kicking some a$$"
On the way out, he goes to fake punch Ken King in the face, but at the last moment falcon punches him in junk, leaving King lying on the floor with tears running down his face"

Agreed...the Oilers/Canucks will have set odds to win the lottery and it will either happen or it won't.
League-wide ridicule and 15 years of "what could have been" comparisons is not at all appealing, just for the false impression that we did our part to "block" them from drafting higher.

There's no way our pick winning is the best case scenario. If any other Eastern team won it, our rivals wouldn't get it AND we don't have to endure the ridicule of trading away a phenomenal pick.
IMO, our pick winning is likely the 3rd worst scenario...just behind the Oilers or Canucks winning it. Arizona winning would be pretty close as they're in our division...but they aren't a cap team so it wouldn't be a horrible landing spot.
