Well I agree, you old spitfire .
I have wanted shoestringmarketing.com since I discovered the net, five/six years, maybe. He wanted a hundred thousand for a name I have used for 25 years.
He reduced his price to 15 thousand a few years ago but
he has never used it. I certainly wouldn't wouldn't pay that much. Hey, I am shoestring 'ing it .
I might have helped thousands more people start a business except I didn't know how to make .ca or .info as popular. .com was the natural.
Now it is just too much work.
I will wait him out, someday he might figure out it costs him $15 bucks a year to keep his name that makes him nothing and he will just drop it.
Then I will buy the name till my grandson's grandson.
I will teach them namewithholders.

Joe Lindstrom is an old school BBS'er here in town. In the days of 2400baud modems (I had an MNP modem ) he used to run one of the better BBS's in town, Farpoint Station. Back then he used to incurr crazy costs as these were FidoNet boards that provided and email like service via LD calls, not this pie in the sky Internet. Joe Public benefitted for free.
With his past in mind, I don't necessary think he's a squatter as he'll gladly relinquish the site to it's rightful owner. And really, it's not like he's plastered the site with pr0n banners and Cial1s Flash ads to really cheapen it. He's just got some minor commentary offering his wares.

LOL no way!! I used to go on that BBS, or at least I knew of it (memory is fuzzy, that's a long time ago). That's awesome.

Shouldn't a website devoted to a goaltender end in "dot-net" instead?

Lessee, bit of a virtual version of our previous "Remember Calgary When.." thread here... where's my good old trusty copy of Procomm Plus?
- Logical Solutions - computer store in Varsity (across from Troutman's now office). Had a bank of USR 9600HST modems IIRC. I think you had to pay them for access though,
- H.M.S.S - Her Majesty's Secret Service - lots of time spent here. Had some good doors (games as I recall).
- CAL PC
- The Bear Board
- T-80 BBS
- The Batcave BBS
- The Jailhouse
- The Badger's Hole BBS (I used to know the Sysop)
- Total Recall
- The Nighthawk
- Jokerz Wyld
- Wizard's Realm
There's hundreds more - the 80's oil boom meant for a lot of nerdy talent coming to Calgary back then...
Anyone else a Tradewars 2002 addict?
Ahh the days of Quick BBS, Remote Access, PCBoard, BinkleyTerm, D'Bridge and FidoNet. All these young whippersnappers here probably don't even remember command line computing! ;-)

Nope

I do remember having to memorize all the function keys for wordperfect DOS in school though. Sure did pay off.

I remember Nucleus having a game where you ran around killing commies, they would wander around yelling "Six foot, seven foot, eight foot, BUNCH!", and "Nobody expects the spanish inquisition!"
Man I wish I could remember the name of that game.. and find the source code; I'd put up a version on telnet!
EDIT: I FOUND IT!! Infinity Complex! Wow I've been looking for that for years and years!

Self advertising, and when I emailed him I got the same spiel... While I think he would give it to Kipper, or his agent... I find nothing honorable about how he's leaving it stagnant, while advertising his own services.

And why don't you read this:
"Regardless of whether you take me up on this offer, though, the domain name is yours. All you need do is ask for it."
He is suggesting his services, not ramming them down anyone's throat.
