Who else can he play? The scratched players (Glass, Stewart and Shore) don't fit the role or are downgrades. Bennett has had a disappointing season, Jankowski has cooled down from the start of the season, Hathaway isn't going fit on the top 6. This season has been defined by our disappointing powerplay and our third line lack of offensive production.
Since Tkachuk has gone down the lack of depth with offensive skill has become really apparent. Versteeg has only played a game since returning so he is going to take time to get back to game speed which unfortunately is something we don't have.

On the bright side, a bunch of us in attendance are about to get a dozen free Krispy Kreme doughnuts for the shutout. There is always a bright side...

But how are the advanced stats?!? I’m sure the flames are dominating high danger scoring chances.

Have we had a single 3 on 2, 2 on 1 or breakaway this game?
I missed the first period but wow we don't even look remotely dangerous at all. Easiest shutout of the season

He’s putting Brouwer on the second line. He is the slowest guy on the ice. Hell I’d rather move kulak or Hamilton up to play wing. Would be more effective.
Bennett has been great this game

Good work guys. 4-0. Getting outplayed all over the place. Quibble with the linesman over an icing call.

No team has looked like they’re skating in the Nevada desert.

Strong play and high energy period by the Flames.

So naysayers will say, this is exactly the issue. The fundamental premise of naysayers is that GG hockey controls the play but doesn't generate enough top quality scoring chances. There we're no high quality odd man rushes by the flames (2-on-1s, 3-on-2s, etc), the PP didn't force MAF to make any high quality saves.
When the shots are 19-6 and the flames don't score...i think it actually suggests the nay-sayers are right...

So just to summarize
- That's two goals for the VGK on odd man rushes by my count...and none for the flames
- And that's one goal for the VGK on the PP and none for the flames

I agree 100%. The problem is we all agree he should never have been hired in the first place. BT might be one of those guys (like Gully), that won't admit his mistakes and keep him. He might roll with him to start next year. Lord knows they are way too slow on ANY decisions lately. Too many to list actually. I'm just spitballin here and really hope I'm wrong.

Moving a defenseman up is not a good option. Just because it works with Burns does not mean it will work for others. Burns is on another level. Bennett has not been consistent enough for this season to bring him up on the second line. I don't disagree that Brouwer is not a good option for the second line I just don't think we have anyone else to take his spot this season without Tkachuk. A healthy line up probably has Brouwer on the fourth line like he has been for most of the season when our forward group was healthy, outside pp time.
Edit: Plus if you put a defenseman on forward their play will suffer from fatigue.

He’s the only forward still trying to make something happen.
He’s actually skating and creating chances. But it’s shades of #### at this point. Being the best flames forward today is like being the prettiest ugly chick at the bar

Do the Flames practice shooting right at the goalie? Because they are amazing at it.

Your definition of great seems to vacillate considerably.
Depending on the player, of course.

Would like to try a line of Tkachuk-Backlund-Bennett to end the season.
Not a knock on Frolik at all, but having Frolik on your third line RW might not be so bad.
