The only purpose this thread serves is to now bash him and pretty much give reasons why he sucks and shouldn't return. Poor timing, and IMO he deserves better then this.
I would say that for the most part, the thread has been quite complementary towards Stajan, especially if you filter out those that are frankly always negative anyways. I don’t necessarily think the OP is trolling for insults either, although I do se general consensus that it’s time to start bringing in youth; but that’s still not really a slight on Stajan.

Shore is likely the fourth line centre next year (although it's likely someone will be brought in to challenge him).

I think Stewart was brought in to be the next character veteran "locker room presence".

I doubt we see Stewart re-signed either

Please no.

Never been a fan of the player. Can’t believe we re-signed him 4 years ago. In 8.5 years he had one true highlight which was scoring the series winner against the Canucks in 2015.

He has been decent down the stretch and I glad he will hit 1000 games but this needs to be the end. Someone younger or meaner in his role next year

I like Stajan. The problem with him is he doesn't have that standout quality that some bottom 6 forwards have.

Elite shotblocker? No
Fighter? No
Faceoff specialist? No
PK specialist? No
Big shot? No
Heavy hitter? No
Speedster? No
Shootout specialist? No

It is a lot easier to sell yourself on a player if they have some specific notable quality (besides being a good human off the ice). Bouma blocked shots, Colborne was good in the shootout, etc... Stajan is Stajan. I hope he lands somewhere, but I can't imagine him having an NHL contract next year.

Is Stewart considered a “character” guy? I’m not aware of anything bad, but his reputation doesn’t scream leadership, work ethic etc. He has bounced around a lot.

That's probably one of the better highlights of the last 8 years though. It's not like anyone else on the roster has a closet full of franchise highlight reel moments in that time period. His penalty shot goal and the series winner immediately come to mind.

I think Hamonic is going to be the heart and soul guy.

No.

I think we need to change the look of the bottom end of the roster and that begins with cutting bait with a few forwards, Stajan included.

I've grown a fondness towards Staj over the years but we need to do what is best for the team. Our depth scoring hasn't cut it this year and even though a lot of that can be hung on other guys like Bennett, Jankowski and Frolik in the top 9, we still need to change the identity of our 4th line. I want a fast, gritty, able to chip in offensively every so often line that can generate us some momentum on a regular basis.

Gaudreau-Monahan-_____
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Bennett-Jankowski-Ferland
_____-Shore-_____
Lazar/Hathaway

We need to revamp our bottom 6 and it starts with cutting loose older, slower vets that can't put the puck in the net regularly enough.

His penalty shot goal was special because of a personal tragedy he went through. We stomped the Oilers in that game. If Stajan did not sadly lose an infant child that goal wouldn’t even be a memory.

I might consider signing him for 1 year only, at a dollar amount that I am really comfortable with (i.e. a hometown discount).

to me it would be somewhat disrespectful to bring him in on a PTO

But he did. So it is.

Notable moments don't always have to be about winning a big game. Sports drama is about winning, but it's also about people. That was a beautiful moment. Not sure why you feel the need to denigrate it.

The Flames 4th line under performed this season.

They struggled for most of the season generating very little

They need to address this issue....

Unfortunately that will start by replacing Stajan

I don’t think you can afford to risk him slowing down any further. I think he’s been better down the stretch but started the season off a step behind and took him a while to get his feet under him. He’s been a loyal player to the flaming C and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Flames find him another role in the front office a la Conroy/Mcgratton.
