So was GG smart about putting Stewart and Shore in? I think they did their jobs pretty well (moreso Shore in actual play, but if Stewart lets the Flames have their way with McDavid, maybe he's even more valuable).
If Smith is back with a vengeance, if Tkachuk comes back soon, and if the bottom 6 starts playing well, things are going to be interesting.

Hell of a game by the team to finally strap that stupid f'ing losing streak!!
Hell of a game by the vets. Stajan, Gio, Hamonic, T-Bro. All stepped up HUGE for the win. Botton 6 didn't look nearly as bad as CP suggested in the GDT.
Hell of a game by Smith who is literally Jesus in a goalie's body. He's back. And we legit have a shot at playoffs now. Couldn't be happier with his bounce back game.
Oilers are terri-bad, but McDavid as the lone bright spot really does possess elite talent that is hard to contain. Backlund and Gio's lines did a heck of a job keeping him off the scoreboard.
Nick Shore looked great too.

At least you're no longer to pretend to be a worldly visiting Oiler fan!

To be fair the Kings did play the right before and won, so getting 3 out of 4 points is not an actual bad thing. But screw them!

Next game against the Sharks the forward lineup is going to look a whole lot better.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Bennett-Shore-Versteeg
Brouwer-Stajan-Stewart
Scratch Hathaway and Lazar. Jankowski can sit another game.

It was an extremely satisfying win, however, this team still needs to find a way to score more goals. Edmonton is a tire fire and they could only muster a single broken play goal. You can't rely on Smith to shut everyone down completely as the only path to a win the rest of the way against teams that are actually competent.
The major plus would be getting Tkachuk back (hopefully) would provide a definite spark against a much better opponent.

Yawn. Oilers fans complaining about officiating again I see. Eventually you all simply have to accept your team is not very good. Nothing to be concerned about for Flames fans as it was game 71 of an 82 game season where the only worry is the result in the W/L column. Style points mean nothing. That was probably the Oilers best effort last night trying to put a nail in the Flames playoff coffin and the Flames got the two points which is all that counts.

From a fan of the team that cornered the market on moral victories over the past decade, enjoy yours!
Mike Smith played great. Had to be concerning when he was talking to the trainer.

All those concerns went out the window after the split save on RNH to keep the Oilers at a goose egg.

The team looked a lot better without jankowski and with Bennett on the second line.
I don't know if the second line looked better, obviously not without tkachuk, but the bottom 2 lines looked significantly more 'solid'.
I mean, it was the oilers so I'm not looking into this too deeply, but, the bottom six players looked a lot better without Janko and Bennett there. More 'foot-soldier-y', less 'just happy to be here'.

The Flames won so what exactly is the moral victory? A banged up Flames team got the two points they required to stay in the playoff race which is simply taking care of business.

Not finishing last and winning the draft lotto = moral victory
Winning a game you need to win to stay in the hunt for playoffs = actual victory

I've always thought Calgary Minor Hockey should change that one.

Loved how the team was willing to muck it up. Mugging McDavid and RNH sent a message that they were ready to do anything to win.
If Stewart gave them those wings then keep him in because it helps.

What are you talking about? The Flames loss to SJ in Calgary in Dec was their only home loss in the past two seasons against the Sharks.

Decent game and happy with the win, but man this team needs to figure out how to score more.

Flames were missing a key forward in Tkachuk. With him and Versteeg coming back hopefully next game I think we will see some more scoring.

No way Lazar gets scratched. He's a part of the bottom six solution. Crazy talk.
