Matt Stajan has taken a lot of abuse on CP recently - unwarranted IMHO - the last play of the game says it all. The guy swallowed his pride years ago, played through family difficulties, and grinds it out on the 4th line. It will be sweet to see him hit 1000 games. I hope he gets a loud ovation for it in the Dome.

Credit where credit is due - Stajan has looked really good for almost a half season. He still gets ragged on, but I take Stajan in the lineup over any of the AHL call-ups and any of the guys that are rotating through the lineup. He does a good job, and that 4th line has been doing a good job of providing energy, defensive ability and actual offensive pressure on a regular basis now.
Stajan is far from what is wrong with this team. Not just an important locker-room guy, but an important on-ice piece as well.

I know people were questioning throwing in Stewart but there was more then 1 occasion where he kept Kassian in Check.
Also noticed a big differnce with how the team played McDavid without Maroon guarding him. McDavid better get use to teams being more Physical with him. There are few players with Maroons toughness that coaches will throw up on the first line. The older he gets to the less hell get a neanderthal playimg with him aswell.
It was great seeimg the Flames out hittimg and taking the physical edge ober the coilers.

Oh trust me they did when Kassian blatantly shoved Smith’s pad into the net despite the fact the ref was immediately waving it off. They try so hard those Oil fans, a truly special bunch.

Wow this is massive revisionist history. The 4th line has been a dumpster fire for about 80% of the season. Where I may agree with you if we are being generous here on improved play is Brouwer exclusively and that’s because he plays 30 minutes a night and in all special teams situations.
I’m not sure why being the good guy that Stajan is has entitles him to 1,000 games and Stajan DEFINITELY has not played like he did tonight for half the season. That assertion is frankly nuts and I wonder if you’ve watched at all this year.
Stajan is one example of several players that are exactly what’s wrong with this team. No depth in scoring. I’m amazed this is even considered for debate.

And Stajan hammering McD and then taking a fly by on Nugent Hopkins along with Gio. Kassian impotent on the play, as he was on the ice and saw it all. Maybe Stewart has him spooked.

I don't think that it is a maybe. Stewart would have tuned anyone of the oilers had they stepped up.
This will be Stewarts role going forward and why the Flames took a flyer out on him. You need a guy like that in the playoffs aswell.He is descent enough to score goals but he is a modern version of a player policing the ice. Hamonic can't do it all the time. You can't always have one of your top 4 dmen sitting for 5.
Stewart will sit against the fast teams but against WNG, ANA and LAK we most likely see him.

Refs can EAD...league is a joke. Head shot no call...phantom call because McDavid and then Brouwer tripped no call.
I would have just rag dolled McDavid in those last few seconds, why not?
Not just the ref but TSN as well.
I was at the game and didn't see a high stick from Lazar on McDavid but the refs called the penalty. I got home to watch TSN talk about the penalty but when I watched the replay, it was a joke. The stick was no where near McDavid's face but he puts his hand over his face and the penalty is called. TSN doesn't call him out for it but are surprised that Hamonic didn't get a penalty for shoving McDavid a little later in the game.
Come on TSN.... Oh wait... McDavid is the love of the East as he is from Ontario.
