It means that GG's supporters on this forum are not bumping the thread when the team wins. Maybe it's because GG has few supporters of his work (on CP anyway).

But at least the graphics above show the Flames aren't just shooting from the very outside tip points of the home plate perimeter while giving up crease jammers in front of their goaltender.

The puck is getting to the place they want the puck.

It's not going in.

I agree, Bingo.

But playoff-bound teams score goals and find ways to win. This team does not (at least in any meaningful fashion), and it misses the net to an unacceptable degree. It is simply not a playoff team (and I say this with no anger—I’ve been off the train for a month or so.)

So is the personnel not good enough then? Is it coaching? What gets the team to the next level? This is the crux of the issue, IMO.

I think it has to do with how incredibly frustrating some of these losses have been. We’re not talking about a close game where the team put in the effort for 60min to come up short. Those losses I can deal with (and we saw a lot of them under Hartley). It’s how they’ve come out flat, or fall apart at adversity, or seem to consistently run into a hot goalie. This also happens in games they *should* win, and by not winning these winnable games, they now have to find points where they are less likely, ie. against Vegas.

Do you and the people who thanked you want the rest of us to mention after wins that we are really happy for the win, but we still think the coach should be fired? You wouldn’t complain about people being downers then?

The coach has proven himself (to me) as being the wrong person for the job, that he is a significant factor in the stagnation and in fact regression of the team. I still would rather they win in spite of him, and I am going to enjoy when they do win. But the data from the last 148 games doesn’t get ignored every time they win a couple of games. The coaching needed to be improved 3 months ago, 2 weeks ago, and will still need to be changed next month.

But I still hope they win and make the playoffs.

The most incredible thing about last night is that, even when Gulutzan finally does something right, he still does it wrong.

156 games into his Flames career, and he finally figured out that he can shorten his bench. I rather imagine Gulutzan felt about the same as neanderthal man did when he discovered he could harness fire. Except what does he do? He sits Bennett (until late) and Jankowski - and their 23 goals - while rushing out our worst player in Brouwer, and Ferland, who has one goal in six weeks.

Baby steps, I guess.

Oh, and if it helps, Dissent, I will happily drop a post in here about how Gulutzan needs to go after each of his 12 remaining games, win or lose.

A lot of us are preparing our "told you so" speeches that we started writing back in November of 2016, but I wish that wasn't the case. Obviously I would have preferred that he succeed. Of course we all wanted that. If/when he's relieved of his duties what will be most frustrating is that this wasn't done sooner when the team could acclimate itself to a new voice behind the bench and we didn't have to worry about the possibility of another slow start to a season. Not that this would be any different if Gulutzan stays on.

When his name showed up on the short list of coaching candidates majority of CP was like wtf this can't be true. 150 games later and I'm still like wtf was Treliving thinking.

I'd prefer it be less, if they get eliminated. Let him and his two bench assistants go the minute they are eliminated. No need for postseason exit interviews and all that process.

Make a clear message to the fan base from BT that these results aren't acceptable. That blown games and the inability fro the coaches to push players that extra but, and make in game adjustments, have cost the team 10 or so points, and that's without the team playing any better on those in games; just smarter and more appropriate given the game situation they were in.

That said, I haven't given up hope that the talent on this roster can overcome that make it real close still.

This team is baaaad at home.

The home record alone should be enough to can GG.

For a team that is posturing for a new arena, they sure fumbled the ball on the 10 yard line. If Ken King and his cronies didn't come out and cloud a promising and exciting season for the fans. I would probably be more mad on how this season's gone but the whole arena debate really soured my opinion on the team this year.

The Flames started the year by announcing during a charity golf event that they weren't going to pursue a new arena and then floated the possibility of moving all in the same night. At a f'n charity event.

They sort of deserved to lose this much at home.

(This has nothing to do with Gulutzan, but the timing on that still bugs me)

Does someone still think that the Flames are unlucky when the same thing keeps happening time and time again? It's either lack of scorers, guys not mentally checked in, GG lost the room... whatever. But it sure as hell isn't about luck anymore.

I've never seen a team miss so many grade a scoring chances by either missing the net entirely or shooting into the legs of the other team.

Sure but at this point calling it luck is an excuse. In my opinion of course.

Let's put some responsibility on the players for not scoring on those chances.

If it was game 1-3, sure I would call it luck but at this point of the season and we're still seeing the same problems game after game. It's not luck. It's bad coaching.

I think GG is a decent coach, in fact, an NHL coach. I just don’t see him as a fit for this team though.

I find they hold onto the puck too long till they are out of position or the play is no longer dangerous and the other team has gotten back.

FFF: Agreed. I have no doubt Gulutzan will resurface as an assistant in the NHL.
