He can just demand that they get it anyways without any investment in the lot.

I'm sure he'll find a way to claim that he's actually paying for 120% of it.

What exactly is an "Innovation Centre" anyways? Are they gonna rent the space exclusively to a bunch of different tech bros or something?

Does anyone know what is planned for the old CBE building where the Family of Man statue is? Same with the old YWCA?

Mixed use project, office, hotel and some residential I think. YWCA is a four tower residential project by Great Gulf. 2 condo, 2 rental.

Both not really going anywhere yet.

I don't understand why the land around the Westbrook LRT station hasn't been built up with high rise condos. Now there are proposing to build a soccer dome with a giant parking lot on the vacant land. Sounds about right.

I think we haven't seen anything there yet because much better locations in Beltline and other urban areas (Inglewood, Bridgeland, Hillhurst-Sunnyside, Mission) were still available. Also throw in the big push East Village got and I think that may be why there has been no movement on that vacant land.

I may be in the minority, but I feel this city does need a soccer stadium. 5k seating would be fantastic for the development of our Foothills pro club. That Westbrook location would be awesome, and they could still surround it with condos.

Aren't they just proposing a typical soccer dome with fields and your standard minimal bench seating for family and friends?

Was Victoria Park re-development included in the previous CRL? I thought it was only for the East Village.

I am just wondering if this was originally planned and approved by councilors or is this government budget creep of "we have this money, why not spend it in Vic Park"

If it wasnt included in the original then they should not extended the CRL or use that $150M in Vic Park (I love how they talk about it as "free money" and not money that has been diverted away from the City's general budget revenue) but they should instead end the original East Village CRL and call it a huge success and then vote on where the next CRL will be or if the City needs one.

Ahh! Very well could be. Not familiar with the project really, but if that’s the goal, not really a fan. The city is finally getting many rec level indoor soccer facilities, don’t see the need to eat up that prime real estate for that.

NM, the whole "Rivers District" was included as per http://www.calgary.ca/CS/CPB/Pages/P...tion-Plan.aspx

In that case I believe that in 2027 the CRL should end as planned and then if they want to create a new one then they need to get it approved by the province since the CRL is also swiping new Education portion of the property tax which goes into the Provincial coffers which as we all know are very low atm.

The owners of Sunnyside Garden Centre in Bowness have sold the site to a "well-respected and significant developer in Canada". They will shut down after summer this year.

Sad to see the greenhouse leaving, that was our go to place. It's an interesting piece of land (or really two pieces I guess). Location is mixed in my opinion, good access right off Sarcee and the TCH but at the same time it is split in half by 69 Street and I'm not sure what you could squeeze in on the west side of 69th. East side is larger and has more potential but it right next to the CPR mainline so not exactly ideal for residential either. An affordable housing project was just built immediately north of Sunnyside. It looks like a pretty good project from what I can tell visually but the stigma of that might also play into things. It will be interesting to see if this 'developer' who purchased intends to do something residential or commercial.

I have a guess as to who the developer is based some of their more recent purchase - the Sunnyside site fits right in their wheelhouse.

I'll confirm once it's public.
