Flames were in trouble post bye week. That break took the wind out of the sails and they never recovered, which is beyond frustrating the coaching staff never made any adjustments to the lineup.

I'm not confident in the complete player of any D except Giordano. Hamilton has the tools but no tool box, Brodie has fallen apart, and Hamonic is good but not gamebreaking.
Yes. Doubling down on this D group was a mistake.

So Gillies and Rittich are obviously not ready for the NHL but how much longer is it going to take? Two years? Three? Four? They're already 24 & 25 respectfully - shouldn't they be getting close? By no means am I blaming the game on them but they both had a golden opportunity to make a statement and they've kind of crapped their pants. This team needs a goalie right now who can stand on his head night in and night out. With the fragile nature of the team, pop gun offense (especially the putrid PP) and endless giveaways you just have to have a great goalie. I think Mike Smith could have at least got us to overtime tonight. Sad, sad situation...
How many NHL games prior to this season for either of them? If anything, these disappointments are going to be beneficial in the continuing development these two young goalies. Now they know what it is like to play in the NHL. Now they know what more has to be done to make it full time.
I have more faith in Gillies honestly. the size, the ice cold demeanor akin to that of Kipper, his athleticism has even been full on display yet either. only flashes.

This season is the least fun I've probably ever had as a Flames fan. Even during the the seven-game winning streak, I was anticipating a collapse at any second. By the time I started to believe again, they followed that stretch with six straight losses.
This is bad, boring, and infuriating hockey. And yet, all this pain for not a single draft pick in the first three rounds.[/QUOTE]
This is the worst part for me. It is so sad because the organization did it to themselves.
It really was a huge risk that really blew up in their first. In a season where you don't make the playoffs, you should NEVER not have at least two picks of your own within the first three rounds.
This is the kind of crap we would expect from the Oilers. What a cockup.

1st line hasn't scored in 3 straight games. Monahan has gone completely cold.
2nd line has been okay but that's about it.
3rd and 4th lines are the worst in the league.
Defence allowing way too many grade A scoring chances
No #1 goalie.
This roster doesn't have what it takes to go 11-4-2 or whatever it is we need. Should probably fire Gulutzan and get a head start on looking for the new coach.
Firing now makes no sense unless you are really set on a guy for now and future.
You gotta wait till offseason to see who becomes available. Quenneville or Vigneault might not have jobs in April. Would hate to not get a chance at snagging one of those guys because Tre wanted to save the season by getting a new coach with 16 games left.

For the price we paid, you expect a game breaker. Hamonic has been anything but.
I mean, he looks like your typical 4/5 defenceman... just as he had for the two seasons prior with the Islanders.
What was Treliving expecting?

I think it's hard to blame the goalies when the team scores 3 goals in 3 games.

I'd honestly let Conroy stand behind the bench knowing that it's only temporary.
Like you said, it's only 16 games. Couldn't hurt at this point.

Yeah unless they want Sutter and he can implement his game into this roster for the final 15 games of the season. I'd wait until April to fire GG.
