Backlund's miss coupled with Gillies not sharp on the chance the other way and not holding his post. Confidence lost and the team gave the coach a big FU and quit in him.
JG played 11 minutes in the third. 11. Over 24 minutes in the game.
Love him but he can’t carry this team. Monahan and Bennett can GTFO as far as I am concerned.
Fact is. This player group is not made for this coaching groups system. we have far too many creative and reactionary playmakers who are stifled within the system. You can see it. Second guessing the pass they instinctually wanted to make, passes to where they were coached to.
If you cannot trust the players to think the game freely, dont pay them millions of dollars and go develop some hockey robots.

So Gillies and Rittich are obviously not ready for the NHL but how much longer is it going to take? Two years? Three? Four? They're already 24 & 25 respectfully - shouldn't they be getting close? By no means am I blaming the game on them but they both had a golden opportunity to make a statement and they've kind of crapped their pants. This team needs a goalie right now who can stand on his head night in and night out. With the fragile nature of the team, pop gun offense (especially the putrid PP) and endless giveaways you just have to have a great goalie. I think Mike Smith could have at least got us to overtime tonight. Sad, sad situation...
This season is the least fun I've probably ever had as a Flames fan. Even during the the seven-game winning streak, I was anticipating a collapse at any second. By the time I started to believe again, they followed that stretch with six straight losses.
This is bad, boring, and infuriating hockey. And yet, all this pain for not a single draft pick in the first three rounds.
This is the worst part for me. It is so sad because the organization did it to themselves.

So how many shots were actually legitimate scoring chances because to me it looked like maybe a 10-15 shots could have been scoring chances but the rest were just limp wrist shots.

It's too bad that 2 of the team's only competitors are quite old (Giordano, Smith). The Flames need more of them.
I'm not confident in the complete player of any D except Giordano. Hamilton has the tools but no tool box, Brodie has fallen apart, and Hamonic is good but not gamebreaking.
The entire bottom six arguably doesn't belong in the NHL. Glass and Stajan should never play another game again. Hathaway and Shore are mediocre at best. Jankowski is a rookie. Brouwer is pathetic.

Ya I was so sad when we booked our family vacation for 2 weeks at the end of March, missing all but one if the last 7 games of season.
Now, I'm thankful.
I am in the same boat. Leaving on March 13th for 2 weeks thinking I will miss some good hockey. Now I am glad that I can take sometime off following this team. Hopefully I can still entertained by some good old time playoff hockey in April, but not with the Flames.

I think this entire team should learn when it's the appropriate time to execute a line change in the second period. Absolutely inexcusable to give up breakaways like that. Just a lack of execution by these bums.

Nope. Firing at the goalies crest and missing open nets all season cost them. The object of the game is to SCORE goals. Not have possession of the Puck.
This is how I feel watching Flames games nowadays...

Reminds me of the Brent Sutter days. Mike Keenan had the Flames playing some awesome hockey, Sutter comes in and makes it boring. Hartley comes in ya they weren't good but atleast it was entertaining. GG comes in and makes it boring.
And if you're gonna come in and make it boring, at least let it be Dave Tippett sort of boring that wins you games where you are frustrating the crap out of the other team. This isn't even close to that sort of hockey. I'm not exactly sure what this is.

Gillies made a number of massive saves on how many breakaways/2 on 1s we gave up tonight?

Honestly, this team hasn't been the same since they blew that lead in Game 3 last year vs. Anaheim

Because the Flames always win games when they score 1 goal....
