Kerr was adamant that the owners and Betman will absolutely not be talking about an arena deal.

I'm looking forward to smarmy, ratty quotes from both him and Nenshi. Every time either of them says something while bobbing their heads or closing their eyes, take a drink. Going to be one hell of a Friday!
Always entertaining when this dirtbag comes to town

Then what else can Betman talk about when pertaining the Calgary flames? Can't see him giving advice about pp.

-No plans to change the playoff format
-2022 olympics are a long way off, not thinking about it much, but as the last 3 weeks indicate we're perfectly comfortable not going again, but I won't predict what we do in the future. Focused on growing the game but not sure if that's a good way to do it

It's just an annual tour. I'm sure it's more of a state of the union address

And just like that it's over.
Nothing new. For anyone interested, he basically said he's not here to talk about an arena, that's between the city and the Flames. He's not here to talk about the olympics, that's between the city and the IOC. He was clearly being careful with his answers to not create a bunch of quotes for the media to run with, and he even admitted he was doing that on purpose.
Really just a media availability for the sake of having one since he's here.

Surprised he didn’t say the NHL would be at the 2026 Calgary olympics if the Flames have a new building.

Yeah, theres not much for him to say or do, hes just here so he figured he'd stop by.
I'm normally a supporter of Bettman, but whats he supposed to do? His job is to grow League revenues, a new building for the Flames will go a long way to that end so his interests are vested with the team as opposed to the City.
In other news, water is wet and snow is fluffy white BS.

Bettina probably did more to hurt tha chances for an arena than help it, though. So he didn’t do a great job in that respect.

How can he hurt chances that the CSEC proclaim to be 0? Cant get any lower.
The official position of both parties at the moment is that the Mayor is listening but the Flames arent talking.
The Flames (CSEC) are adamant that they arent discussing a new arena with the City and the Mayor/City are saying that the Flames are not discussing a new arena with the City.
Cant hurt something that doesnt exist.

I think Roughneck was referring to Bettman's input during the arena debate, not this talk.

Oh. Well in that case hes right. Bettman really should stay out of it until theres some sort of mutually agreed-upon framework.

At this time last year, I was totally fine with the World Cup replacing the Olympics in regards to NHLers. But after watching what an exhibition tourney that turned into, with the whole Under-23 team cheesiness thing (that team was fun to watch and carried a buzz, but it removed the nationalistic pride vibe an international tourney should draw, and instead gave it an all star game feel), plus what a brutal draw the men's Olympic hockey turned out to be, I've done a 180 on this.
Basically both tournaments could be considered disappointments, which I didn't expect. I'd imagine both sides would be more motivated to get the NHL back into the Olympics for 2022.
PS- I'm actually kinda surprised he got a Q about playoff formats. We were under the top 8 conference format for 20 years, and this is what, year 4 of the divisional format now? Why change it again already? I like the current format as well. I'm guessing the reporter who asked it, does not like the current format.
