Honestly, can this moron behind the bench call a timeout once? Get scored on 4 times in 12 minutes, and does nothing.

That is a valid reason to save them. Not sure if you were being serious or not.

Semi serious, but the team blew another lead as a fan I could already tell the momentum was shifting and here we are 4 straight goals.

Timeouts are over-rated as an effective in game management tool
I would save it for a critical goal review too.

What's Gulatzan going to do during a game management time out anyway?

His team is perpetually unprepared to play games, he's going to talk them back into one that's sliding away? Might as well save them.

If Gully comes back next year - it’ll be an utter waste of a season.

It’ll go poorly, and then we’ll fire a coach in like December. Better to just get it done in the summer.

Nice knowing you Gulutzan. Good luck with an AHL/WHL team.

And yet experienced coaches do it all the time. Then again they also talk to their players throughout the game, as opposed to staring off into space or watching the iPad on the bench.

More making stuff up.
The narrative that he doesn’t talk to his team is absurd
But that’s ok. I get that we are on a witch hunt here
So making stuff up is ok
Wonder what the average time outs per game are and how many coaches are now also saving them in case of review
One could look into that
Or just make stuff up

Fire the coach, it really doesn’t matter. No coach will take this skill-less, undisciplined team full of muckers and grinders to contender status under their current make up. They’re a 1 line team most nights and everyone else just struggles to keep up with the play.

All management cares about is more edge and more truculence and what you see is what you get. They’re the second most penalized team in the league with a mediocre penalty kill and an inability to outscore their problems because their just not quick enough or talented enough for today’s NHL.

Brian Burke and his archaic philosophy needs to go. The NHL has moved away from his prehistoric thinking while the best teams in the league have focused on speed and skill and are thriving.

There have been 55 successful coaches challenges in 980 games this year - so a coaches challenge only impacts a game 5.6% of the time, or roughly 1 in 18 games. If you assume a uniform distribution throughout the game, then late in the second, the odds of a questionable goal occurring in the rest of the game and us successfully challenging it would be roughly 2%.

You've got a mentally fragile team that's given up a multi-goal lead again. They're not moving their feet and look like they're feeling sorry for themselves. Surely the mental reset that a timeout could provide is worth more than the 2% chance of a goal?

What’s up with people and time outs? Time outs don’t do squat. There’s 9 TV timeouts per game and none of those helped stop the bleeding. Penalties, penalties unquestionably was this team’s downfall tonight. Too much focus on trivial stuff and not enough on substance.

Pretty good breakdown. I don’t disagree. Hate the idea of saving for a challenge. Flames could have used it when it was 2 -2 and reset a bit

Why don't we just look at a two season window rather than the microcosm of time outs. The dude is completely mediocre and it's not working. You can talk about holding players accountable all you want, but you're not going to trade them all and this coach has shown nothing to instill confidence that he's not the problem. Mediocrity doesn't get the benefit of the doubt.

What do you guys defending this guy so hard even see? Please explain why this coach deserves any more rope. Two seasons now, the same thing. The signs were there by the end of the first and nothing has changed.
