So every new addition at this point in the season should be parked in the press box then? It’s always an experiment after a new acquisition.

I’m not expecting much out of Stewart but I’m kind of excited/intrigued to see what he does starting tonight. If he falls on his face, he’s a waiver wire pickup that can shuffle down the lines or eat popcorn. If he finds his game, it’s found money. Not a lot to lose for the Flames. I hope he does really well.

Haha, oddly enough that is what they did with Lazar last year. Granted, different circumstances given the winning streak and all.

All games are important from here on in - but this one seems more so IMO. On the road in Dallas - first of a back to back against teams we are competing with for a wildcard - and first game post TDD. These are 4 point games that a playoff bound team must have. Sure you can lose and still be in the mix - but you start to feel like a pretender if you don't win these games.

Not so keen on Gilles in net though.

Hoping for a big win tonight.

Flames owe Dallas a loss. Haven't beat them in 2 tries this season.

Flames win this one.

3-1

This quote from GG from an article from the Flames site was in the claimed on waivers thread and belongs here as well.

"That's how it will start but I did tell Stewie today that I am probably going to move him around a little bit. You want to give a guy a heads up before you go into the game and say, 'Hey, I might move you around a little bit. You never know where chemistry comes from but I'm going to start you there.' That's what it is."

Regardless of which line Stewart plays on, I really hope he brings plenty of "nasty" to his game. We really need it and it might elevate the game of some of our young players. I might be old school and I am a firm believer that intimidation is a thing in the NHL.

Agreed. I said in another thread that aside from a few guys on our roster, we are small and delicate, and lose the intimidation battles on the ice. That didn't go over well with some folks. But i think its true.

I think Bennett Jankowski Versteeg could be a good line

Flames - Oilers game 1 last year. Marooon and Lucic trash talking our team during warm up. If that wasn't a thing they probably wouldn't do it, right?

Also, Jankowski and Bennett simply don't dump and chase. GG doesn't coach dump and chase.
They tried to pigeon hole Brouwer onto that line for half a season. Then chiasson. Even Hathaway got a chance when ferland left with an injury before Bennett did. Glen is obsessed with right shot right wing. He begrudgingly played Bennett top line rw, ignored his success and replaced him with Stewart the second he got a chance.

You can bet getting a chance to play on the first line, Stewart is going to be fired up for this one. I expect him to contribute tonight in a big way.

That’s my favourite part of having chris Stewart. Good teammate who is huge. Guys like hamonic etc are tough and all that but don’t bully the other team. Would love to see kassian act all tough and then get his teeth punched in by Stewart.

Nope, he's right. After you get a guy on waivers, you either park him in the press box or you start him on the 1st line. There are no other options.

It's a weird phenomenon to me that there is a very vocal segment of fans that simply don't want this to be true for some reason. I just don't get it.

But look no further for an answer to that question than what the captain had to say about Stewart yesterday after he was claimed....

More Giordano on Stewart “He’s an intimidating player to play against. Anytime you have a guy like that on your team it makes everyone else bigger for sure

Hopefully the Stewart acquisition lights a fire under Hathaway. He's gotta know that he's in a battle just to stay in the line up once Versteeg and Ferland return and now there is another hard-hitting RW vying for his spot. Same goes for Stajan, I think. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up once Shore is with the team.

I'm very surprised by the Stewart to the first line decision. I guess they just didn't want to go with a third line that had two natural right wingers on it.

Big game tonight... hopefully Gillies is up to the task against some high-end scorers on Dallas.

I get that Stewart will be motivated and you want to get him feeling good but if it comes at the expense of Bennett’s confidence is it really worth it?

If Bennett isn’t mentally tough enough to understand why it’s being done or deal with it accordingly, that’s on him. Like Haynes said, it will probably be a short leash.
I don’t think it’s Bennett’s mental toughness that’s the issue.. seems to be the people in this board
