I couldn't put my finger on it but deep down I knew who reminded me of Trump
And yet, despite Carroll O'Connor's brilliant characterization of the bigoted Archie, the Trump comparison doesn't fit. Archie wasn't evil, just ignorant. O'Connor's inherent empathy still showed through in his character, Trump has no empathy and no ability to even fake it.
This tweet has since been taking down because the guy was ridiculed relentlessly on twitter. Imagine if this guy was walking around an elementary school.

Doesn't look like he's been retired for 29 years already... <.< >.>

Exactly, it just shows the brilliance of Carroll O'Connor depicting an idiot bigot that the future brought us in a real Donald Trump.
I have been really impressed the calls for boycotts have actually worked. America might not be doomed after all.
The NRA turning a blind eye to mass shootings yet freaking out over losing a flight discount proves they are a bunch of whinging entitled losers and hopefully will cause further erosion of their influence.

Back in my day in grade 1-4 the only person with combat experience in school was lunch room supervisor WWII vet Betty, and NO ONE ####ed with her. With or without a gun. So ya, let's arm the lunch ladies.
The comic then impersonated Trump to offer an example of a more interesting fantasy.
“Even if I had a gun, I would have dropped it just to show how tough I was,” said Colbert-as-Trump. “Then I would have run in and hit the shooter with my laser-beam eyes, then use my mind like Neo in ‘The Matrix’ and fly away to space Mar-a-Lago. Space-A-Lago.”
The only thing an armed cop or teacher can do in a school shooting is become a target themselves for a few seconds, that in itself might allow a kid to escape but in a school which is effectively a series of long hallways with no cover made of plasterboard walls that offer no protection at all around the few corners that could be used against a gunman with a semi auto rifle wearing a bullet proof vest we are talking about asking a cop or teacher to willingly commit suicide, there are no alternatives to that.
You’re assuming the shooter is an expert marksman, not a deranged kid.
Modern day rifles like the AR-15 are pretty much point and shoot, they're very accurate even for a novice. Also when you can send a bullet down a corridor as fast as your fat little fingers can squeeze the trigger, there's a strong likely hood that your going to hit someone.
I was really good with pistols, but I hated them. They super aren't accurate, and the way that you had to use them almost always forced you to expose your self.

I'll put my money on a deranged kid with an AR over an expert shot with pistol. Effective range for a pistol is about 30 yards, under favorable conditions. Effective range for a 5.56x45/.223 is 600-800 yards. A shouldered weapon is also much easier to control and keep on target, especially with advanced optics, even the most basic of those optics. That is without talking about penetration power or the type of bullet being used. Most defensive carries are using a hollow point round which mushrooms on the first thing it contacts. The AR is using a full metal jacket which is designed to penetrate and go through things. A pistol user has to be super accurate and hit his target. The AR user can shoot through cover and put his target down.
Again, the whole idea of having pistol packing people in the mix of these events is just stupid. These are comments from people who don't know anything about weapons, don't know anything about tactics, and are just trying to score points on their side of the political chasm.

No, I am assuming he is wearing a vest and has high capacity magazines and is spraying the area with hundreds of rounds, he (sexist of me I know) is immune to anything but a head shot from a handgun.
There is no way in hell any cop or teacher is bringing him down on their own, the chances they get an aimed round off is almost none, even if they manage that the chances it hits anything unprotected as the shooter is moving and shooting is again almost none.
As soon as they shoot, if not before the shooter will unload at them and everything within 15 feet of that cop or teacher will be shot to pieces including the cop, it would be, without doubt, an act of suicidal bravery, but it would be suicide.

Everyone likes their hero's. American's especially are hero focused. Custer was a hero for the so called Custer's last stand.
But at the end of the day, they ignored for a long time that Custer was a fool and a bad officer on that day.
They venerate the one man against all odds suicidal stand.
"My god, that man died a hero, you should aspire to be that brave son"
"I hope someday I can be as proud of you son as I am of that great hero who rushed a guy in a machine gun nest. Yeah he got hit 97 times and died uselessly but dang nab it he's a hero"
Its ok to stare death in the face and rush in against all odds, but its a fool that rushes in just to rush it. Whether he wants to be a hero, or he wants to die a hero.
Rushing into a situation with no awareness, heavily out gunned and out ranged. A) You ain't saving any kids that day, you're not, you'll get mowed down and become another statistic, and it won't distract a determined shooter long enough for a extraction. these are kids and teachers, basically peeing their pants not professional soldiers trained to react under fire.
B) You ain't a hero for sacrificing yourself to no purpose, you just caught a bullet, congratulations you're a statistic.
Oh and here's another thing that bugs me. A lot of this hero, pro gun thing comes from American History right. The brave armed men and woman of the old west, dueling their way across the wild lands, killing Injuns and cattle rustlers with a steely eye and a gun in each hand.
The truth is that most of the actual lawmen of that time period, were the toughest of the tough veterans who had managed to survive the Civil War, and I'm betting that today, those guys would have been leading the parade on gun control.

Reading some of the twitter conversation after that thread is sobering. Parents who quiz their kids on best hiding places in class/school, practice how to play dead, participate in lock down drills in elementary. Insane.
This is one of the main things I struggle with living here in the US. Thankfully, my son is less than 1 year old, so I don't need to worry about school shootings yet.
I might have to seriously consider moving back to Canada in a few years when he's old enough to attend elementary school
As soon as they shoot, if not before, the shooter will unload at them and everything within 15 feet of that cop or teacher will be shot to pieces including the cop . . . .
Quantity has its own quality.
