He just blows by Staal.
End of the day it is a free asset. Loubo in the morning I think said it the best, at the trade deadline and a gm you have you stick to your plan. The flames shouldn't be giving up a bunch, especially not any of their better prospects. The elite teams tweak, they don't make blockbusters. We aren't and elite team so just keep to the process.

I don't get why he was available for free in the first place. He might not be worth much in a trade, but anything is better than nothing. Surely there would have been someone ready to give a low draft pick at least.

I like it. If Ferland is hurt, he's a wayyyyy better option on the top line than Sam Bennett.

I think the Tampa bay lightning would beg to differ on not making blockbusters

Don't hate the move
I will find it funny as hell if Stewart somehow out performs Kane down the stretch.

The thing is, that does not seem at all unlikely.

I expect that's wishful thinking, but not sure either of these players have ever helped a team win, so I'll take the free one

Looking forward to Stewart vs Kane. Should start a thread to keep tabs on that race. I think it could be closer than many would think.

It will be interesting to see where Stewart plays with Ferland being out of the lineup.
Bennett has looked good on the top line, but Bennett and Jankowski are decent together. I think Stewart will eventually play on this line.
I expect Gulutzan to really bounce him around from the 4th line all the way to the 1st line and see if anything clicks right away. I think he will surprise a few people on these boards.

Evander Kane has scored 5 goals and 6 points since Jan 1, and he is moving to a bubble team with an aging core. I don't expect it to happen, but it would be unsurprising if it did.

Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
Treliving on Stewart: "Chris is a well-known commodity in this league and Chris is big and strong and plays a heavy game, but he'll be the first to tell you this season hasn't gone the way he's wanted to."
Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
Treliving on Stewart (cont): "Performance will dictate where he goes in the lineup."
Treliving also calls him motivated after talking to him today.

The Flames weren't the only team to put in a claim, according to Treliving. Obviously, any who did were above the Flames in the standings.

I am excited after watching those videos on Twitter. His teammates loved him in minny and hearing positive reaction from flames players makes it feel even better as a fan.
I hope he can get in a groove and keep himself upbeat if he isn't playing or is just playing in a limited role ....this move reminds me of when we acquired Simon back in the day.
Great job Tre.

Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
"When I talked to Tre, he laid the cards right on the table. He knows what kind of player I am and wants me to just be me. Music to my ears." - Chris Stewart
Jermain Franklin @TSNJFranklin
Giordano on Chris Stewart “Playing against him over the years... he’s a big strong guy with a lot of speed and goes to the net hard… And he’s really tough to be honest, lets not sugarcoat it. He’s one of the tougher guys and he’ll help us out in that department as well” #Flames
Jermain Franklin @TSNJFranklin
More Giordano on Stewart “He’s an intimidating player to play against. Anytime you have a guy like that on your team it makes everyone else bigger for sure”
